DB2 DBA (AIX platform) on site in Los Angeles, CA :

Description:
May be required to work other hours as needed, and weekends performing
maintenance and support duties. This position requires operational support
for corporate databases including backup, table recovery, system
availability, performance tuning, monitoring and troubleshooting. Position
will often require the coordination of tasks with other teams. Provide DB2
database administration recommendations on such topics as statistics
gathering, table and index reorganizations, maintenance plans, monitoring
techniques/scripts, backup and recovery. This role requires 24x7 production
support of DB2 (Clustered/non-clustered) databases environments. Work will
often be performed with minimal direction.

DBA/DBE should have the experience in the following and expect to perform
some/all of these tasks:

Implement database object changes in various environments (prod/dev/test).
Validate the changes with the application team and provide appropriate
privileges to users.
Perform data management tasks as required, loading / unloading, updating,
restoring and removing data to support *datawarehouse ETL* jobs.
ETL tuning for optimal performance
*Experience to manage large tables, with billions of records and /or
Terabyte size tables in partitioned database on AIX server.*
Monitor and manage Space: Purge obsolete data and reclaim space
Identify and troubleshoot databases issues with high priority. Monitor the
database for any performance issues.
Refresh Dev/Test databases with prod backup images as requested.

Query tuning for optimal performance: Analyze long-running queries to avoid
tablescans and adding indexes/updating stats or reorg as required.
Build proactive monitoring scripts to monitor outage conditions and notify
the group ahead of time.
Work on user requests for various tasks like contention issues (locks and
deadlocks ), granting/revoking permissions, cataloging db's etc.

Monitor database backups and archive logs. Troubleshoot backup failures and
work with Backup/TSM team as required.

Run maintenance activities like *REORGS, RUNSTATS*, and space reclamation.

Monitor the databases for any unusual activities and check the logs
periodically.

Monitor the database logs/trace and debug the issues proactively

Work closely with the application team and provide consultation on database
subjects.
Develop Scripts to automate tasks like purging TSM backups
On-call support to for databases issues, to complement DBA support in US,
including weekends and night hours in US


*DBA/DBE should have the following qualities:*
Ability to work independently with no supervision and very little guidance
Creating and/or updating documentation.
Must be able to work in a pressure situation effectively
Ability to design both logical and physical Server environment including
SAN, OS and DB Engine configuration standards;
Superior analytical skills, outstanding ability to trace problems back to
origin and determine/document root cause
