Title: Project Manager III (DCJS 11-08)

Duration: 2+ years 

 

Description: 

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is seeking a
Project III for project management of several mission critical DCJS
projects, e.g., Juvenile Justice Data Improvements and Criminal History
Search and Data Mining. The Project assigned will be responsible for the
planning, execution, monitoring, and risk management of agency project
activities which cross project boundaries. 

 

Specific tasks and responsibilities to be addressed through these
interactions are: 

.         Define and manage project scope, schedule and budget. 

.         Ensure project team follows the established project management and
system development life cycle at DCJS. 

.         Function as a facilitator to identify alternatives when project
team issues and priorities conflict. If all alternatives are exhausted, the
Project will function as a conduit to escalate issues to OJIS Executive
Management. 

.         Conduct weekly communications meetings with representatives from
each of the project teams. Meeting minutes and action items will be
documented, distributed and managed. 

.         Function as a facilitator to clarify business or technical
requirements which cross project team boundaries, to a point where a
strategy for addressing the requirements can be assigned to a specific team
or team member. 

.         Provide weekly updates to OJIS Executive Management through a
weekly status report and status meetings as required. 

.         Coordinate with DCJS OJIS staff including Technical Services,
Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio Analysis Group, Customer Service and/or
Business Analysis, and external entities, as required, to facilitate
completion of project tasks. 

.         The candidate is expected to display strong interpersonal skills,
strong work ethic, self-motivation, and excellent presentation skills. 

.         The candidate must have very strong written and oral communication
skills, the ability to work independently, but also successfully work on a
team. 

 

MANDATORY EXPERIENCE 

 

CANDIDATES NOT MEETING ALL OF THE MANDATORY EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS BELOW
WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION 

1. Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in overseeing medium to large
scale projects. 

2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in managing projects involving
participation from multiple agencies or multiple companies. 

 

ASSOCIATED SKILL SETS 

 

Candidates must also have five (5) of the preferred skilled sets listed
below. Accordingly, candidates not meeting the supporting experiential
specifications below will not be considered for the position. 

Minimum of two (2) years experience in a management position in New York
State government. 

Minimum of two (2) years of experience in managing project budgets exceeding
1 million dollars. 

Minimum of two (2) years of experience using MS Project. 

Experience with a criminal justice service organization. 

Experience with managing cross project inter-dependencies. 

Strong organization skills including meeting facilitator skills. 

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 

PMP Certification.
