*JOB SUMMARY*

Initially there will be no team leading or supervisory responsibilities.****

Database Administration for a number (approx. 60 instances) of SQL databases
(Dev, IST, UAT, DR and Prod), and assistance on other systems including
Oracle and potentially Rocket System’s U2.  You will be required to cross
train to support systems based on Oracle for secondary support.****

The SQL Server Database Administrator responsible role will be working as a
team member on the project reporting to a Lead DBA. ****

   - Oversee and perform the designing, coding and testing of SQL software.
   ****
   - Oversee and perform the maintenance and repair of SQL in accordance
   with technical and functional specifications. ****
   - Oversee the creation, execution and documentation of tests necessary to
   ensure that  technical environment meets performance requirements. ****
   - Lead the identification and implementation of configuration changes to
   SQL software applications to meet business requirements. i.e. Numara****
   - Lead the planning and implementation of all actions required to deploy
   the application both technically and functionally. ****
   - Plan, analyze and define high-level software strategies and solutions
   through functional expertise and an understanding of the enterprise,
   business system and industry. ****
   - Lead the definition of functional and technical requirements of
   deployment of new projects that require SQL. This will also include the base
   SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 upgrade. ****
   - Maintain a high-performing, motivated work group by applying
   interpersonal communication and collaboration skills to achieve project
   goals and realize value. ****
   - Have an understanding of .Net functional spec****

*Responsibilities*

**·         **SQL Database Administration (using SQL version 2000, 2008)**

**·         **Experience of SQL backup tools (i.e. light speed or MS tools)
to perform database back-ups/restores****

**·         **Knowledge of  platform commands that include both Windows and
LINUX****

**·         **Explicit knowledge of SQL and  Oracle and Rocket’s U2 (PIC)
would be an advantage****

**·         **At least 5-6 years of relevant systems experience either in
the capacity of technical support or a technical operation role.****

**·         **Some overtime and weekend work will be required****

**·         **Will need to be on-call on a rotating basis (probably one week
in three)****

**·         **Out of hours via pager/mobile**

**·         **Willing and able to travel on occasion**

*Main Activities and Tasks*

**·         **Support the day-to-day execution and maintenance of SQL
Production database environments****

**·         **Maintain and Improve automated housekeeping tasks (Backups,
log clean up, space, etc) and Monitoring jobs**

**·         **Analysis and alteration of database configurations where
appropriate**

**·         **Provide support for automated backups and restores when they
fail**

**·         **Investigation and resolution of database problems (corruption,
performance issues)**

**·         **Perform adhoc restores in order to resolve problems, or
complete adhoc work requests**

**·         **Validate new schema designs, and implement in live environment
**

**·         **Troubleshoot application performance and SQL query**

**·         **Support application releases as required**

**·         **Provide advice to developers where required**

**·         **Plan the testing and implementation of database software
upgrades (as necessary)****

**·         **Monitor database growth and capacity, and highlight potential
issues****

**·         **Monitor database system event logs and highlight potential
errors and performance issues****

**·         **Ensure technical support incidents logged in the incident
tracking system and are progressed to a satisfactory resolution ****

**·         **Complete change requests according to agreed time-scales &
procedures****

**·         **Contribute to the continuous improvement of the operation of
supported systems****

backup & restore, database performance diagnostics and tuning for ALL
databases.  They work closely with the system administration group
concerning system resource usage and allocation, system backups, and system
performance.****
