Job Title:Unix/ Linux Administrator with Financial Experience

*With regards to this consulting engagement, the candidate will be assigned
tasks in relation to a data center migration (re/building and configuring
servers, installing various UNIX software, configuration management with
Puppet, etc.)*

Client operates an electronic quotation and trading system in the
over-the-counter (OTC) securities market and is the third-largest U.S.
trading venue after the NYSE and NASDAQ for equity shares. The IT team
designs, develops and maintains a number of highly-available, low-latency
quoting and trading systems, using cutting-edge computing software and
hardware.

Client is looking for a UNIX/Linux System Administrator. This job
opportunity requires a significant exposure to trading systems and
financial information providers. Successful individuals in this role should
be a subject matter expert in at least one - UNIX related - area with a
strong background in Linux and/or Solaris platforms. It is also crucial the
candidate works well and communicates effectively with others, is
self-starting, creative, and able to think through a project from start to
finish.

The selected candidate will be responsible for all activities associated
with the support, management, and operation of UNIX platforms and financial
applications:

• Audit and frequent analysis of the existing systems to keep them
up-to-date with low latency and high-end operating requirements
• Develop prototypes to demonstrate proposed functionality
• Perform data analysis and relief sizing and timing for computing
platforms growth
• Collaborates with application development team on roadmaps, automation,
and operational improvement activities across multiple environments
• Interact with customers and vendors to troubleshoot 2nd and 3rd level
problems
• Mentoring other team members and a good understanding of project
management
• Document and improve existing IT infrastructure and application support
procedures
• Communicate and implement the projected system changes, ensuring the
stability of the eco-system and compliance with industry best practices

Experience level Requirements:
• B.S degree or more in Computer Science, Systems and/or appropriate
certifications
• A minimum of 5 years of UNIX/Linux System administration, or 2nd/3rd
level UNIX/Linux application support with Service Provider/ Enterprise
• Previous experience in a financial environment is preferred

Technical Skills and Abilities:
• Advanced understanding of UNIX/Linux Operating Systems; Linux or
Solaris-10 is a must
• Troubleshooting and deployment experiences with FIX engines is definitely
a plus
• Advanced knowledge of best practices pertaining to UNIX/Linux distributed
systems in enterprise class environments
• Broad knowledge of Sun hardware and another key hardware vendor (Dell,
HP, etc.)
• Solid knowledge of truss/strace/dtrace (process tracing), including
command-line options. Should be able to describe what the program is doing
based upon these tools
• Significant experience with tools geared to understand a machine's
behavior: iostat, vmstat, netstat, sar, lsof, top or other UNIX/Linux
utilities that can give similar results
• Understanding of TCP/IP stack and related configuration in a UNIX/Linux
environment
• LDAP, NFS, DNS, NTP, and SMTP
• Demonstrated ability with Shell programming such as bash and Perl

Acquaintance with the following technology is a plus:
• EMC product line and Fiber Channel technology
• Broad line of Cisco network devices including different models of
switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, Wi-Fi, ACS and VoIP solutions
• F5 or other Global and Local load balancers
• VMWare or another Virtualization technology
• Veritas Foundation Suite
