This is a 7 month contract*. The selected candidate applies architectural principles and establishes technical and process standards for a given platform, architects system design, drives configuration based on requirements and best practices. *Responsibilities:* - Coordinate WebSphere upgrade activities for Java applications in a WebSphere/AIX/Oracle environment. - Create technical design / upgrade documents for multiple web applications in this environment. - Deliverables include system and component documentation, including Class Models, system overview and developer standards. Strong familiarity with UML and Design Patterns is a must. - Creation and analysis of standard re-usable components, evaluation of existing codebase to determine upgrade path. - Architect new/upgrades to applications using a combination of existing toolsets and custom code while constantly evaluating opportunities to create additional re-usable components in support of the business. - Perform code reviews to confirm that design standards are being followed or created as necessary. - Development work is required and is expected that the candidate has a strong development background and is able to create “proof of concept” scenarios, evaluate potential 3rd party tools and provide leadership for other developers. *Required Skills:* - Expertise with leading a WebSphere upgrade project (multiple versions) - Experience with Java and WebSphere version 8.x, Rational and Eclipse tools - Experience with integration of WebSphere, WebSphere Portal, Oracle, Siteminder and eDirectory - Related foundational Java technologies (eg: OO design, Java Frameworks (Struts, Spring,) SOA, etc). - Strong experience refactoring code and leading code reviews. - Strong communication and documentation skills (verbal and written). - Expertise in the design of N-tier web applications. - Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. - Creative thinking for providing innovative solutions. - Self Starter. This person needs to be able to identify opportunities for value on their own. - Experience in other development technologies is a plus.
