* Job Title:   Senior Linux Systems Admin/EngineerLocation:  San Diego,

Citizen   Job SummaryThe Linux Systems Admin executes the plans created and
approved by the Network Operations Department Management Team that relate
to services provided by IT to the organization. This entails performing
enterprise system configurations, monitoring, & maintenance.   Essential
FunctionsFunction as primary Linux systems engineer.Maintain system
services and performance.Propose and implement system changes and
upgrades.Function as systems administrator for MySQL database
systems.Maintain existing programs and scripts, extending functionality as
needed.Help maintain data centers, wiring closets, cabling, servers,
consoles, switches, routers, etc.Monitor network and systems health,
responding appropriately to alerts and events.Diagnose and troubleshoot
daily system issues.Assemble and configure servers and related equipment
for data centers.Adhere to Change Control and Downtime Event Reporting
procedures for all critical services.Document projects and
installations.Serve as engineer in on-call rotation.Work a flexible
schedule allowing system maintenance during off-peak hours (late evening
and weekend work as necessary).Perform other duties and projects as
assigned.   Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Computer Science
(or equivalent experience)8 + years’ experience administering and
programming Linux systems in an enterprise environment.Must be able to
quickly diagnose system problems and implement solutions to maintain
uninterrupted service.Must have an expert-level ability installing,
configuring, and maintaining multiple Linux distributions (Red Hat, CentOS,
Ubuntu)Experience with administration of Linux systems on modern HP blade
server hardware and SAN disk systems.Experience working in a LAMP
environmentExperienced in enterprise monitoring system architecture,
design, implementation, maintenance, and administration.Experience working
with high-throughput, highly available, public and customer-facing Internet
systems.Experience establishing security standards and baselines for
public-facing Linux systems.Experience administering MySQL 5.x on
Linux.Knowledge of rsync and other file replication mechanismsKnowledge of
common Linux/Windows integration points including Active Directory and
LDAP.Knowledge of web servers (including Apache & Internet Information
Server (IIS)).Knowledge of Data Center and Co-location build-out.Experience
with shell scripting.Ability to prepare system documentation and execute
changes according to change management procedures.*
