lots of other very complicated applications. The intersections of these
applications are the integration points. As an example – a retail
application that takes basic information from a potential customer (age,
weight, smoker etc) will interact with rating, underwriting, claims and
payment systems before returning quotes on different plans. So all of those
apps need to be integrated with the other apps. If a candidate cannot
explain how the applications they developed interact with internal and
external dependent systems, or how they deal with exception handling, XML
payloads etc, they do not have the integration experience and will NOT get
an interview and probably will not even get one.***

*Backend development for this manager goes beyond the basic development of
views, triggers, stored procedures etc. True backend development is dealing
with the integration issues above. Someone that simply does the triggers etc
is developing for very basic A leads to B type application – info goes from
application directly to a database. This hiring manager’s team develops much
more complex applications.*

Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the detail design documentation, development, unit
testing and maintenance of internally developed applications and externally
purchased software products
- Write code for system designs that span platforms
- Code to and create Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
- Write code for enhancing existing programs or developing new programs
- Write detailed technical specifications for subsystems and identify
integration points
Estimate project timelines and resources required to complete programming
projects
- Perform unit testing and debugging and set test conditions based on
code specifications
- Supports application throughout the Product Development life cycle
- Coordinate with areas for integration architecture solutions and
determine the integration approach
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related business area or equivalent work
experience and 6-10 or more years of related work experience
- Demonstrated experience programming using .NET and Sharepoint
- Demonstrated experience using SQL or similar query language
- Demonstrated experience using debugging tools (Visual Studio preferred)
- Demonstrated experience using versioning tools (i.e. TFS)
- Knowledge of System Development Life Cycle, product development
methodologies, database methodologies and system integration
- Demonstrated experience with windows operating systems
- Understanding of coding design and documentation protocol as well as
unit testing, change management and release procedures
