Role – Firmware Test Engineer Duration – 12 months Location – Minneapolis, MN Skill QA (QA, QC, Testing, etc) Skills Required Medtronic wants really SDET people although they’re not calling them that. They want someone who can drive and work on their own and do so in an environment that’s process heavy and highly regulated. Below are the overall human characteristics they want that apply to both jobs are: • Technical mind set, high level • Working in a regulated industry • Understand the SDLC • Not just do the work but also show they followed the process • Training up front; not only process but also where and how to apply it • Lots of face to face; written communication; distributed working environment • Flex schedule; initially all in the building; 40 hours a week in the building • Manual test, follow templates and fill them; details are important; automated tests • Some WHAT and WHY not just HOW • Self-starters • No time to hand hold For the first of the two jobs, the Monitor (this is the name of the product they make) firmware engineer, the following technical pieces are relevant: • Current system is embedded w TI chipset; no OS, no file system • Next gen is/will be Linux-based • Doors & Cockpit for req management currently in use • Test scripts are written in C • They’re starting to use Python • They also use some C#, VB • Need a person with data manipulation/ comparison skills • Understanding of low level networking helps • Web based app knowledge will be important • TFS for source control/bug tracking • Manual tests on the actual unit no simulation at all • No automation to date • Mostly waterfall method used POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: § Design, development, and execute tests of a range of external products (Programmers, remote monitoring, etc.) in compliance with applicable regulations and processes. § Understand and analyze product requirements § Design and execution of tests using automated test tools. § Design and execution of manual tests. § Establish and maintain traceability from requirements to verification test design and implementation. § Participate in the technical review of firmware requirements. § Participate in the technical review of peer verification test development. § Participate in the review of peer test execution. § Interface with development engineers on firmware implementation. § Assist development team on debugging and solving issues discovered during test. § Operate electronics testing equipment. § Prepare, review, submit, and maintain project/product documentation. § Assist the verification lead in workload planning and time estimation. § Participate in process improvement initiatives of the testing team. This includes recognizing areas for improvement as well as working with others to develop and document process improvements. § Work under general direction and collaboratively with internal and external partners. § Help maintain, improve and design new software tools. These tools use Perl, Java, or C++. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED • Embedded systems or RTOS development § Strong programming skills in C/C++ § Strong knowledge of firmware design, debug and test practices § Strong oral and written communication skills § Experience with configuration management tools § Proficiency working in a team environment Skills Desired DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (optional) • Experience in mobile software development, ex. iOS, Android • Experience in web based technologies, ex. HTML5, JavaScript and CSS • Experience with multiple development platforms/tools, ex.TI CSS, Eclipse • Experience with multiple OSs, ex.
