*Job Title: Mainframe Application Developer* *Location: Oakland, CA* *Duration: 6+ months* Prefer local candidates. *Scope:* The position is in the Enterprise Application Services team within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department. The team is responsible for the development and maintenance of several system wide University applications. Applications supported within the team are the University's self service web site At Your Service Online, the University of California Retirement System, the Endowment Investment Accounting System and other systems related to Research Policy administration. The mainframe application developer position participates in all aspects of system development and maintenance including analysis, system architecture, design and integration, programming and other tasks related to the development and support of existing and new applications. The primary application focus is the University of California Retirement System. *Key Responsibilities* Based on business requirements, perform analysis and develop a systems solution expressed through a technical design document to meet the requirements. Formulate time estimates for completion of tasks and report on status. Review overall design with business partners and technical design including code reviews with technical team members. Write CICS, COBOL and FOCUS programs based on the technical design document. Negotiates, develops and executes moderately complex test plans. Develops conversion and system implementation plans. Performs unit, integration and regression testing and builds interfaces for a variety of internal and external constituents. Recommends and implements changes in development, maintenance and system standards. Provide first level technical support as required. Respond to error reports by analyzing defects, developing resolutions, preparing software releases to remedy reported problems. Participate in on call rotation as required. *Education * Education equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in computer science or related field and a minimum of 10-12 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in COBOL, CICS, DB2 and JCL. *Knowledge Skills* A demonstrated understanding of complex, data-driven application development and strong analytical skills as demonstrated by the ability to draw conclusions in a logical, systematic way. Develop creative solutions to complex problems and tackles issues in a self-motivated manner in line with the direction of the team and the organization. Proficient in writing complex SQL, Batch Scripts. Ability to Migrate application artifacts on Mainframe Dev/QC/Prod environments. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans. Collaborate with core team members, subject matter experts, ITS staff and business partners. Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to interact with others in a consistently positive manner, exercising discretion and tact. Excellent written communication skills to create clear and concise technical design documents and other systems related documentation. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
