*Job Description:***
Respond to environment problems and implement resolution efforts across
technology areas. Provides Unparalleled Customer Service in the following
area:
• System Engineer – Enterprise Monitoring
• Evaluate, develop, customize, install, implement and maintain monitoring
solutions and systems, according to Customer/system requirements.
Job Functions: Customer/Business Orientation
• Focus on internal and external Customer monitoring requirements.
• Develop understanding of business process being supported by assigned
system(s).
Project Management
• Participate in developing time estimates for project schedules.
• Support the organization’s project management policy, practice and
methodology.
• Provide timely and accurate progress information to project status reports
• Must have familiarity with the basic PC software utilized to perform their
daily duties, i.e. Word, Excel, Visio, etc…
• Must have basic experience in project management and vendor relations
• Must have good written and verbal skills.
Problem Solving
• Analyze and resolve problems of medium to difficult complexity.
• Research and recommend alternative actions for problem resolution.
Platform Engineering
• Assist in installation, customization, development, implementation and
maintenance of monitoring systems developed internally and/or in conjunction
with an outside vendor.
• Assist in evaluating and recommending emerging monitoring technologies.
• Advanced skills in HP Openview Operations for UNIX, HP Openview NNM, HP
Openview BAC Server.
• Experience with Microsoft's Systems Center Operations Manager is a plus.
Testing/Deliverable Quality
• Participate in component and system testing as it relates to monitoring
technologies.
Production Support
• Will be required to carry / respond promptly to an on-call pager on a
rotating basis with other Monitoring Engineers.
• Responsible for immediate response to monitoring problems.
• Needs an advanced understanding of root cause analysis procedures.
• Provide technical problem resolution for complex monitoring problems
without assistance.
Education: AAS, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, and / or
equivalent formal training or work experience.
Experience: Generally has 3-5 years (or equivalent knowledge base) work
experience in monitoring in a large corporate environment.
Maturity
• Advanced knowledge of HP Openview Monitoring tools.
• Advanced knowledge of technical / business environment
Critical Skills
• Demonstrated aptitude and ability for logical and abstract thinking.
• Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution
development, and implementation.
• Ability to analyze and resolve problems of medium to large sized
complexity.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based, Customer service
oriented environment.
• Excellent partnering, negotiation and communication skills.
