*Job Summary*

The Application Architect is part of the Enterprise Architecture team with
a focus on influencing application development teams, collaborating and
team building across technology disciplines, coaching and mentoring
engineers and participating in transformational change. The incumbent is
also responsible for driving adoption of enterprise architecture processes
and participation in the architecture review process. The Application
Architect also contributes to the delivery of major business solutions. The
incumbent is responsible for leading the application technical
architecture, participating in projects from a technology perspective, and
ensuring that software development life cycle activities are consistent
with the direction set by accepted best practices and internal standards.
The incumbent develops applications, and often takes on more complicated
programming responsibilities such as systems or back-end programming,
assists technical staff and resolves any technical issues during the
project. The Application Architect works on highly technical architecture
initiatives, including but not limited to: research, tool evaluation,
documenting patterns and standards, technology evaluation and
recommendation, developing shared libraries and resources, and mentoring
developers through hands-on assistance, training and some technical
development.


*Position Responsibilities*

Position may be required to perform other duties as required.

•             Analyze business and IT requirements and contribute to
systems & application architecture and design.

•             Collaborate with Application Development Managers to provide
work estimates, development schedules and develop an overall solution
implementation plan for new business initiatives.

•             Take technical ownership of the architecture and application
design for multiple initiatives from start to end.

•             Architect new capabilities or re-architect legacy platforms.
Design, code, test, install, and maintain multi-tier software systems on
Unix/Linux/Windows platforms using approved technologies.

•             Define and enforce adherence to architecture principles,
architectural standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines,
usability design standards, etc.

•             Define, introduce and mentor the use of software development
tools and methods, approved frameworks and third party libraries, shared
services and components to enable agile-focused continuous development and
delivery, and simplified, standards-based, cost effective application
architectures.

•             Act as technical lead and serve as a mentor to junior
developers within the organization.

•             Collaborate across different teams to bring together ideas
and gain consensus for the technical direction of the applications within
the domain.

•             Participate in the establishment of the technology direction
for application platforms, products and tools.

•             Evaluate and recommend the appropriate technologies, ensuring
full compatibility with all other appropriate existing and anticipated new
technologies, based on enterprise requirements and needs.

•             Work closely with other Architects to identify where the
adoption and standardization of both existing and new technologies and
architecture throughout the company will provide improved service,
governance, and reduced risk at lower cost.

•             Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and the
potential application on service offerings and products provided by IT.

•             Write clear, concise, and accurate system documentation.

•             Work in an Agile/Scrum environment where the focus is on the
team work and ownership of each project.

*Minimum Qualifications*

•             Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science
or related field.

•             10+ years of experience with analysis, design, and
implementation of multi-tier database-driven enterprise application
architectures.

•             5 years of technical leadership experience.

•             Demonstrated strong negotiation, problem-solving and
analytical skills, as well as creativity and the ability to work with
abstract concepts.

•             Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

•             Experience planning and breaking down a task into sub-tasks
and estimating effort to perform the work.

•             Proficiency creating design documents, such as
logical/physical/functional views, process flow diagrams, and system
integration diagrams.

•             Demonstrated knowledge of IT Security best practices and
integration with application authorization and access.

•             Experience with Oracle 10g or 11g OLTP database.

•             Experience with Java EE, JSF, EJB.

•             Experience with Java EE application servers.

•             Experience with Web Technologies, such as MVC, AJAX,
JavaScript Frameworks, HTML, BPEL, SOAP, REST, WSDL, XPath, XSLT and XML.

•             Self-motivated with the ability to make timely and solid
business decisions with minimal managerial direction.

•             Live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA.


*Desired Qualifications*

•             2 years of experience as a software architect or working on a
software architecture team, providing technical
leadership/guidance/mentorship.

•             Knowledge of Java EE security technologies, such as SSO,
JAAS, JSSE, JCE, JACC, and SAML.

•             Experience with ADF, ADF Faces, ADF Application Module, ADF
Entity Object and View Object.

•             Experience with Oracle WebLogic Server.

•             Understanding of large-scale data processing technologies,
such as SQL, cursors, prepared statements, and stored procedures.

•             Understanding of modern application development frameworks,
such as Oracle ADF, Spring MVC, Spring Web Flow, Spring Batch, JSF/MyFaces,
and Hibernate.
