The Interface Developer will be responsible for front-end development and client-side interactions using various web technologies including XHTML, JavaScript and AJAX. The Interface Developer will work on a variety of projects varying in size and complexity to produce high-quality solutions utilizing industry standards and best practices. The Interface Developer will have the ability to work closely with software developers, quality assurance specialists, other interface professionals and the breadth of JSTOR business units as needed. Primary duties include: • Develop well-structured, semantic code that meets web accessibility standards. • Develop and maintain code utilizing HTML, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. • Develop for cross-browser compatibility. • Collaborate with developers on web solutions using JSP and XSL. • Develop reusable code libraries. • Participate in code reviews. • Develop and maintain documentation regarding coding practices and interface design (e.g. interface style guides). Required skills and experience: • High level of proficiency hand-coding XHTML, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. • Solid understanding of web standards, progressive enhancement, and accessible coding practices, WCAG 2.0. • Solid understanding of cross-browser/platform issues and code solutions. • Understanding of usability concepts and information architecture principles. • Working knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies including AJAX. • Working knowledge of content management systems. • Working knowledge of XSL and transformational concepts. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand and translate concepts appropriate to the audience. Desirable skills and experience: • Familiarity with the Java-based Spring Tiles framework. • Experience with relational databases and concepts. • Experience designing web interfaces and creating relevant graphics. • Experience with image editing software such as Photoshop • Experience with jQuery • Working knowledge of version control and configuration management systems. • Working knowledge of Unix-based systems and ability to work on the command line when required. • A Bachelors degree in information or computer science or equivalent experience.
