*Position Requirements:*
We are looking for a talented and very hands-on java developer to build and
manage our ever growing solutions portfolio. The solutions (web or
middleware) at Penn Mutual are typically developed using cutting edge
frameworks such as GWT, SOAP or Restful Services, JMS, Spring, Ibatis
framework etc

This position requires strong problem solving skills, the ability to work in
a diverse, dynamic, and fast paced environment, the ability to meet
aggressive deadlines, the flexibility to multi-task, the aptitude to work
well with the IT team, the capability to work efficiently with minimal
guidance, the initiative to improve upon best practices, excellent verbal
and written communication skills and the skills to create documentation to
comply with department and audit requirements.

*What will you be responsible for:*
·        Design, code, configuration, and implementation of high quality
software solutions that are delivered on time and within budget.
·        Provide technical input on various technologies and address the
impacts of those decisions across the enterprise.
·        Understand the vision of how the products and systems will be
implemented and maintained, and ensure the integrity of the vision
throughout the product's lifecycle.
·        Mentor and provide focused technical leadership in one or more
areas.
·        Develop and review project estimates and assumptions during
planning and at key project milestones. Validate the development approach
and assumptions that underlie the project plans and work plans.
·        Stay abreast of the ever changing technology industry to make sure
solutions developed are following internal and industry “best practices” and
will meet the needs of the business going forward.  Research and evaluate
emerging technology solutions.

*The right candidate will have no problems meeting the following
requirements:*
·        At least 4 years of hands-on software development experience in
Java including analysis, design, development, support, and optimization.
·        Deep understanding of current design patterns, open source
frameworks and web middleware.
·        *Expertise in the following core skills (non-optional)*:
o        Java platform v1.5 or higher
o        XML/XSLT and XML Parsing (DOM/SAX)
o        New generation XML Binding Tools (JAXB, XStream  etc)
o        Web Services development (SOAP and Restful)
o        Java Persistence APIs or ORM frameworks (e.g. Ibatis, Spring ORM),
o        IOC Frameworks (Spring or Google Guice)
o        JMS Middleware (ActiveMQ, OpenJMS, SonicMQ etc)
o        Relational Databases (Oracle  etc)
o        Tomcat Web Server (version 5.0 or higher)
o        Experience developing with Eclipse IDE and Maven.
·        Additional skills that won’t hurt: UI frameworks such as GWT,
Groovy, Mule ESB
·        Top academic credentials (or some other demonstration of your
intellectual horsepower).
·        High degree of creativity and problem solving ability.
·        Proven ability to meet deadlines.
·        Strong oral and written communication skills.  Strong skills in
explaining, describing and graphically portraying design elements.
·        Strong understanding of the tools and methodologies to architect
and design applications and systems.
·        Must be able to work independently and prioritize work effectively.
·        Strong organization skills required.





*2.        TITLE:   Software Engineer (Content Management/Java)

*PRIMARY FUNCTION*

The Content Management Software Engineer position will help maintain,
enhance, and evolve our content management platforms. The ideal candidate
will have a minimum of 3 years experience working with content and workflow
applications, combined with Java-based software development experience.

*PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES*

·        With guidance and direction, responsible for design, code,
configuration, and implementation of high quality software solutions that
are delivered on time and within budget.
·        Support the best practices needed to ensure on time, quality
software solution deliverables.
·        Understand the vision of how the products and systems will be
implemented and maintained, and ensure the integrity of the vision
throughout the product's lifecycle.
·        Develop project estimates and assumptions during planning and at
key project milestones. Validate the development approach and assumptions
that underlie the project plans and work plans.
·        As appropriate, participate in design, code, and QA walkthroughs
and reviews.
·        Stay abreast of the ever changing technology industry.
·        Communicate at the appropriate level within and outside of IT the
technical direction and proposed solutions for various projects and
initiatives.
·        Provide documentation for IT initiatives per responsibility.
·        Provide feedback on requirements for understandability,
completeness, and feasibility.
·        Provide input to create accurate and complete project plans.
·        Provide timely and accurate project status.

*MAJOR QUALIFICATIONS *

Required:
·        3 years of experience working with content and workflow
applications and Java-based software development
·        Works independently with  self-direction  but considers  enterprise
impact in all solutions
·        Excellent oral and written communication skills
·        Takes initiative in documentation efforts both formal (SDLC) and
informal (Wiki)
·        Possesses an eagerness and willingness to learn new technologies
and business operations
·        Team player both within IM&T and across organizational lines

Strongly Preferred:
·        Off the shelf software platform maintenance and integration
experience

·        Experience with the following (or similar): Thunderhead, Kofax,
OpenText IDM/ECM, AWD

·        XML and related technologies (XSLT, XQuery, XML Schema, XSL-FO)

·        Java technologies and frameworks (web, middleware)

·        Web Services development (SOAP and REST)

·        Relational and Native XML database exposure

·        An understanding of enterprise architecture principles

·        Java Application Servers and Servlet Containers (e.g., Tomcat,
JBoss, Websphere)

·        Development experience using Eclipse and Maven

·        Configuration management awareness, particularly as related to
platform artifact management (scripts, configuration files, platform
customizations, etc)

·        Microsoft development languages and tools a plus

·        Middleware and enterprise integration experience a plus (messaging
and ESB)

·        Insurance and/or financial services industry experience a plus
