Proposes and implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of multiple systems. - Works with applications developers to optimize overall system performance. - Plans computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection. - Looks for opportunities to improve system efficiency through better integration of databases and applications. - Performs backup and recovery on Database Management Systems. - Configures database parameters, and prototype designs against logical data models, defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements for highly complex databases. - Directs staff, contract employees, and other external vendors/resources to accomplish routine and/or lower level tasks. - Devises tests, audits and methods to ensure data in master files and various support tools, such as base dictionaries accurately reflect what is written to it by the software applications that access it. Data must be complete, accurate and in no way altered or systematically changed by the database structure, configuration or other parameters controlled by the Database Administrator. - Responsible for the most complex databases and/or mission critical databases. - Directs the work of other staff and external vendors to accomplish goals. - Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls. - Contributes to department standards regarding data security and integrity.
