*REQUIRED SKILLS*

- 7+ years of database management experience

- Experience managing at least one of the PeopleSoft applications, with a
preference for HRMS. Experience with Oracle Applications would be an added
advantage to any potential candidate

- Strong understanding of the different storage options used in an Oracle
Database. (ASM, Cooked File systems etc.)
- Experience in capacity planning, to include database design strategies
- Experience tuning 11g Rel 2 databases

- Experience in performance tuning of views/tables/materialized
views/queries and indexes
- Experience with backup & recovery strategies (RMAN, cold backups, hot
backups exports, data Pump & Data Guard)
- Knowledge & experience in how to recover a database/table/tablespaces
using the above mentioned methods. Experience with database monitoring
tools, Grid Control
- Experience working with large Oracle databases in Solaris/Linux/AIX
environments
- Experience in installing/patching/upgrading Oracle software as well as
offering assistance with PeopleSoft application patching
- Experience in refreshing databases across similar and dissimilar
hardware. Experience in writing Unix shell scripts with ksah/bash

- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related area
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the technical environments as
normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in computer
science or a related field
- Must have sufficient experience to qualify incumbent to work on most
phases of database administration.
- Significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts,
practices and procedures within the database management field is required
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively
interact with internal and external customers and department staff, as
described above
- Must possess the ability to communicate well with others, to perform work
in a team environment, direct and act as a resource for less experienced
network administrators and relay necessary information as appropriate
- Knowledge of best practices related to security, performance, and
disaster recovery
- Strong troubleshooting skills within and outside database environment
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures
- Solid understanding of various business practices and process flows
- Knowledge of Engineering methodology, Software Engineering principle and
Application design

*OVERVIEW*

The successful candidate for this position should be an Oracle Database
Administrator who has experience in Oracle PeopleSoft HR and Financial
database environments, preferably with formal training in both
Oracle/PeopleSoft as well as Oracle Database Administration (Oracle 10g/11g)



 *Day To Day Responsibilities*

- Manages and maintains all production and non-production databases.

- Responsible for standards and design of physical data storage,
maintenance, access and security administration.

- Develops solutions to resolve highly complex technical and business
issues.

- Recognized expert in databases who provides guidance and internal
consulting expertise toward integration databases with applications.

- May provide guidance/training to other staff.
- Optimizes database access and allocates/re-allocates database resources
for optimum configuration, database performance and cost.

- Works on the largest, most complex databases that are often tied to the
highest visibility, most mission critical applications. Proposes and
implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability
of multiple systems.

- Works with applications developers to optimize overall system performance.
- Plans computerized databases, including base definition, structure,
documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and
protection.

- Looks for opportunities to improve system efficiency through better
integration of databases and applications.
- Performs backup and recovery on Database Management Systems.

- Configures database parameters, and prototype designs against logical
data models, defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and
warehousing requirements for highly complex databases.

- Directs staff, contract employees, and other external vendors/resources
to accomplish routine and/or lower level tasks.
- Devises tests, audits and methods to ensure data in master files and
various support tools, such as base dictionaries accurately reflect what is
written to it by the software applications that access it. Data must be
complete, accurate and in no way altered or systematically changed by the
database structure, configuration or other parameters controlled by the
Database Administrator.

- Responsible for the most complex databases and/or mission critical
databases.

- Directs the work of other staff and external vendors to accomplish goals.
- Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls.

- Contributes to department standards regarding data security and
integrity. Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards
relating to database management.

*Environment: *

- Work in an office environment sitting at a desk, table or computer
workstation for long periods of time.

- May travel by car, plane or other forms of transportation to attend
business meetings or conferences.

- Approximately 50-80 percent of time spent on the job involves the use of
a personal computer.
