Title: Software Configuration Management(SCM) Consultant

Location: Oakland, CA

Must Have Skills: 

 

*       Experience in SCM system such as SVN, CVS,RCS, VSS
*       Experience is automated build software such as Hudson, MSBuild.
*       Experience in Maintaining complex end-to-end development environment
including source code management, build and release.
*       Experience in Windows and Linux/Unix OS.

 

Desired Skills: 

 

*       Experience in any Installer Product such as Installshield, Wise.
*       Experience in Maintaining bug tracking system such as Jira/Remedy.

 

Job Roles / Responsibilities:      

 

* Manages the release process end-to-end, from the planning of release
content through to actual release deployment to production. Plans the
deployment of software releases of products and the in-house applications. 
* Maintains the current PFC change management process for documenting
software release while actively championing and evolving the process to
support release management.
* Works with the end users, and internal cross teams to prioritize and scope
scheduled releases with completion dates for each phase. Monitors progress
of phases by employing appropriate metrics and management reporting.
Facilitates all release meetings.
* Maintains the current SVN version control systems. This includes user
maintenance as well as establishing the appropriate folder structure and
branches for releases. Creates and maintains version directories. Manages
release branches. 
* Validates binaries for custom Java developments as necessary. Moves report
files and non-database code to the production environment. 
* Configures and implements automated tool and/or manual processes that
integrate the Release Management function with other ITIL processes, working
individually or as part of a team. 
* Drives continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics
management.
* Controls the releases, defined as the combination of versions of all
software, in-house and purchased, which have passed the testing series and
are certified as working correctly together. 
* Controls the version migration process as each version moves through the
development and testing process. Develops a strategy to identify the testing
phase of the release version.
* Plans and supports Conversion test migrations and production deployments.
Plans and supports deployments across multiple environments. 
* Works with other technical team members to resolve all configuration and
release related issues. 
* Provides input to the Quality Assurance function when planning the testing
process; and assists with the planning and support of user acceptance
testing (UAT.). Assists with the creation of test plans, test data sets and
automated testing to ensure all components of the system meet
specifications. Develops and uses automated test scripts. Performs some
hands on testing.
* Writes and maintains written procedures for release management.
* Ensures completion of operational and technical documentation prior to
software release for each application. Gathers necessary release notes and
user guides prior to releasing into production.
* Works flexible hours to avoid impact to production systems. Ability to
work flexible hours, 24/7.
* 1-2 year software development experience (Java/.NET)
* Hands on knowledge of scripting (UNIX shell, Windows Batch files and
PowerShell)
* Knowledge of ant and MsBuild
* Windows Installer (MSI) expertise, knowledge of web applications
deployment
* Knowledge of SCM and continuous integration systems (Hudson, Cruise
Control)
* Knowledge of Configuration Management industry standards and best
practices
