Title: Business Analyst with Property and Casualty insurance experience. Location: Berkeley Heights, NJ. Duration: 6 months.
Job Summary The Business Analyst performs a liaison role between the end user (Business User) and client staff (Application Development Programmers, QA Testers, Project Managers and other Business Analyst). The Business Analyst’s primary function is to provide system support to the various business units within the enterprise by means of research, analysis, testing, documentation and training for issues and enhancements related to all systems under the control of client in Berkeley Heights. The Business Analyst possesses a strong working knowledge of a SDM (System Development Methodology) process and is able to analyze systems and processes within the Personal/Commercial insurance environment. They provide recommendations for enhancing work flows to improve processes and identify and correct system issues. They develop detailed Business Requirements (BR), ensure the requirements are met through Quality Assurance tasks and participate throughout the entire SDM process. Knowledge, Skills and Education Required • Business analysis experience within the Property /Casualty insurance industry and ability to interface effectively with the Business Partners/Stakeholders • Familiarity with insurance rating, underwriting and claim processes • Demonstrated ability to prepare functional Business Requirements and Use Cases • Proven analytical, decision making and problem solving abilities • Understanding of Quality Assurance testing (Automated testing experience a plus) and ability to interface effectively with QA Testers • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal • Able to multi-task, manage details and execute effective follow through (including email management, meeting participation, status reporting and systems check out as needed) • Able to comprehend and apply a working knowledge of a system development methodology and ability to interface effectively with Developers • Knowledge of group dynamics and team interaction in a matrix organization • Effective negotiation skills with the Business Partners/ Stakeholders • Understanding of relational database structures (ability to design simple queries a plus) • A strong command of the Microsoft Office suite of products and data analysis/query tools • Demonstrated dependability in a highly dynamic environment. • Occasional after hours support is required • Four year degree or equivalent work experience Duties and Responsibilities • Assist in the development of business solutions in accordance with client’s System Development Methodology including, but not limited to: o Provide input to the Project Manager in the creation of project plans, estimates and schedules o Assist the Project Manager in the preparation of Impact Analysis needed for new systems or enhancements to existing systems o Adhere to the project’s time line and keep the Project Manager apprised of status, issues and progress (provide daily “EOD” and attend project status and team meetings) o Work with business areas to prepare functional Business Requirements and Use Cases, schedule walk-throughs and obtain Sign Off o Develop, document and execute Test Plans to ensure fulfillment of requirements and successful project implementation o Work with technical areas and Developers to interpret Business Requirements and schedule walk-throughs as needed o Interface with QA Testing Team during Systems Testing to ensure their Test Cases cover all functionality described in the Use Cases o Review Systems Testing Results, schedule walk-throughs as needed and obtain Sign Off from the QA Testing Team o Work with the Business Team during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) o Schedule and facilitate meetings as needed with the Business team, Developers and Testers to walk through requirements, test cases and results (prepare meeting agenda and recap) o Develop reports and analyses using various query and/or other tools as needed o Monitor quality of production systems and resolve production related issues during check out and Post Deployment o Ensure all project documentation and test results are stored in the project folder and ensure all test results have been provided to the Developers for the Master Release Plan. • Perform research and analysis activities regarding production system issues: o Investigate and recommend system, policy and or procedural improvements o Perform workflow analysis, create workflow diagrams and make recommendations for procedural improvements – understand and articulate “current state” and “future state”. o Perform systems analysis – understand and articulate full system flow processing for policy writing, billing, claims and financial systems o Perform analysis to ensure effective implementation of statutory and regulatory changes o Perform ad hoc research projects o Research, coordinate and track problems to resolution. • Understand and interact effectively within the Enterprise Group: o Exhibit a continued commitment to expand knowledge base through personal initiative and industry sponsored courses/seminars o Successfully complete assignments on time and with minimal supervision o Provide superior customer service to both internal and external customers o Assume additional responsibilities as requested.
