Title: Need for Teradata DBA - L3 Consultant posted on 2014-02-20 10:26:49 Job Description:Position: Teradata DBA-L3 Location : Dallas, TX Duration : 6 months Job Description: Job Description: Position is for a Senior Teradata Database Administrator with proven engineering, architect, and technical skills who can communicate effectively with developers and DBA teams alike. Candidate will demonstrate superior knowledge of Teradata database features, tuning and design methodologies. The ideal candidate will have solid Teradata experience, working knowledge of Sybase and MS SQL Server, and a willingness to learn new technologies. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment are a must. Responsibilities: * Manages and maintains all Teradata production and non-production databases. * Responsible for Teradata standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration. * Perform Production implementations and work with application developers to tune their SQL for standard coding practices and generate DDL. * Responsible for design and correct functioning of backup and recovery on DBMS. * Configures Teradata database parameters, creates prototype designs against logical data models, and defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements. * Optimizes Teradata database resources for optimum configuration, database performance and cost. * Evaluates and implements new initiatives on technology and process improvement. * Serves as SME in all aspects of Teradata data management and database design. * Serves as SME in all aspects of Teradata DBMS software. * Responsible for maintaining the availability of Teradata version 14 databases in a production and non-production environments * Ensure compliance in related tasks with company and regulatory policies and procedures * Perform additional duties and/or responsibilities as assigned * Follow proper hand-over process between on-shore and off-shore team * Responsibility for constructing and/or optimizing physical database designs tailored for the Teradata information warehousing database environment in support of various strategic application development initiatives. * Supporting application development timelines by reviewing and assisting in the implementation of designs and/or incremental changes to database definitions. * Responsibility for gathering query, CPU & Disk resource requirements for new applications and extensions to existing systems. * Supporting application development timelines by reviewing and assisting in the implementation of designs and/or incremental changes to database definitions. * Technical lead in critical database projects requiring skills in design, development, production implementation and monitoring phases * Define Teradata database architectures and strategies to meet application availability, scalability and performance requirements * Provide technical guidance for integration, testing, design, development, planning of new major, large scale, production systems/databases * Diagnose highly complex and integrated systems/databases such as system configuration, application design and application code * Responsible for configuration management, performance tuning and administration of mission critical production databases * Act as a database project leader for critical, time driven, visible projects * Perform short and long term system/database planning and analysis * Integrate/collaborate with application development and support teams on various IT projects * Oversee activities performed by less experienced DBA's for quality and consistency * Contribute to improving and creating DBA policies, procedures and standards * Design, implement and maintain standardized, scalable and effectively monitored database environment * Design and implement standards for monitoring; ensure that database environment is running effectively, including backups and disaster recovery * Work with database vendors to escalate issues if problems are not being resolved efficiently through normal channels * Mentor database team and developers on new database technology, provide database design and architecture oversight * Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills. * Solid technical and problem solving abilities.
