Position: *Technical Architect (J2EE, COTS)*

Location: *Boston**, MA*

*Job Description:*



The *Technical Architect* is responsible for all architectural alignment
tasks during the lifecycle of a project, ensuring that they align with
information standards and enterprise models in the phase-end QA checkpoints.
The Architect supports project managers in determining the skill sets and
level of effort required to design and construct a particular program,
project, and/or applications to meet the business requirements. They are
responsible for designing an infrastructure for security, data collections,
reporting and analysis, and for selecting the correct analytic architecture
to fulfill the program or organizations analytic and/or reporting
requirements (e.g. variants of OLAP or standard reporting). The architect
examines when to design and incorporate web services to enhance the
flexibility and interoperability of our systems. They will work in
partnership with the data architect to determine appropriate data storage
and reporting strategies. They research technical standards such as SIF and
other shared XML models to determine which standards EOE should actively
support, participate in, and implement.



*Duties will include:*

   - Work with program management & application development teams in
   solution building 2 large programs
   - Collaboratively define high level solution and blueprint for projects
   to serve as a basis for work by the technical teams
   - Provide technical leadership to multiple project teams by solving
   design problems and issues
   - Translate complex technical terminology, concepts and issues in terms
   understandable to technical and non-technical management and resources
   staff.
   - Research technical architectures of *COTS* solutions and evaluate their
   suitability for integrating into department architecture
   - Research new technologies evaluation and support technical teams in
   their adoption
   - Establish standards for web services, *API*, and application design and
   integration
   - Review designs and code created by technical teams for adherence to
   standards and best practices
   - Translate requirements documents into technical design documents
   - Review specification and design documents provided by technical teams
   and vendors
   - Ensure systems enforce data integrity and data quality



*Required qualifications:*

   - Experience with *J2EE architecture*, particularly using *WebLogic,
   Hibernate, *and* Struts*, of *web-based* transactional applications
   - Experience with systems connecting to *Oracle* databases
   - Experience facilitating architecture vision discussions with technical
   teams
   - Experience producing and presenting enterprise architecture proposals
   - Experience reviewing architecture and integration for *COTS* solutions



*Desirable qualifications:*

   - Some experience with *.NET / SQL Server* based systems
   - Experience designing *web services / SOA*
   - Experience designing *single sign-on* architecture
   - Experience integrating with *Cognos*-based reporting and analytics
   solutions
   - Experience working with education data systems
   - Experience working with learning management systems
