*Title:* Java/SOLR Search Developer
*Location:* Washington DC
*Duration:* Long term
*Key Requirements: *Java and SOLR Development experience are *MUST HAVES*
*Interview Process:* Phone Interview, then F2F/Skype interview.
The Java/SOLR Search Developer will work to develop and deploy the latest
SOLR-based search application.
*Responsibilities to include (but not be limited to):*
Advise and guide the customer on the best practices in search while being
hands on in working with Java and SOLR.
· Work with large and variable data sets.
· Increase the performance and availability of the search
applications.
· Work with content team and identify metadata to help improve
search relevance
· Create and maintain the SOLR indexes.
· Supporting applications using complex indexes and multiple page
searches.
· Provide strategies for developing scalable search applications.
· Suggest alternative solutions using various search appliances.
· Identify metadata working with the content team and help improve
user search relevance based on data collected.
· Provide assistance to Content, Architecture and Infrastructure
Teams understand search relevancy and how indexes are developed.
· Help Infrastructure teams understand indexes and auditing of SOLR
configuration.
· Suggest methods to help reduce index creation times for each
application.
· Maintain search application and add new facets.
· Support on-going search application development.
*Minimum Experience:*
8 years’ related experience to include:
· 3+ years working with SOLR
· 3+ years working on Enterprise Search solutions
· 5+ years working with Java and J2EE
· 3+ years in application performance optimization with focus on
search
· The candidate should be familiar with the best practices to
create and maintain indexes for large and variable data sets.
· MUST BE hands on with Java and SOLR.
· Experience with databases with ability to work with RDBMS like
SQL, Oracle and ability to write SQL.
· Experienced with designing high availability systems.
· Demonstrated experience in improving application performance by
optimizing the Search, ETL, Data ingestion, and other processes
· Experienced developing scalable faceted search and real-time
analytics using SOLR
· Support complex multi-page searches
· Familiar with Enterprise Search and Big Data concepts.
· Familiar with on premises and cloud based systems.
· Familiar with concepts of Data Security
· Familiar with distributed systems
*Skills and Qualities:*
Must be a self-starter
· Excellent communication skills with the experience to work
directly with business stakeholders
· Excellent attention to detail capability
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
· Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision and
guidance
· Excellent time management, scheduling, and organizational skills
· Ability to work well independently or in a team setting
*Education/Certifications:*
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related
field or equivalent experience may be considered.
*Physical Requirements:*
Regularly required to move about for extended periods of time;
frequently required to move about to access facility equipment such as
fitness machines, weights and other fitness equipment/office machinery.
· Will be required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up
to 25 lbs+.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of
computer monitor screens up to 80% of time.
