*Job Description*

Summary:  Develop and deploy industry leading Business Intelligence (BI)
solutions that help to deliver increased profit and performance throughout
the company. With an understanding of business processes, holistically
gather and explore data, transform it into a tractable form, and present
the story it tells to the client. The Senior Analyst champions new
standards and design principles to improve BI platform effectiveness and
usability, and it coordinates efforts to support and drive continuous
improvement with colleagues and end users. It also builds working
relationships with business partners and technical experts to lead
collaboration on strategic projects and ad hoc analytics activities. This
role acts as a problem solver with an interest in the details while working
with large sets of data.



*Essential Functions:*

•         Continuously improve the quality and usability of corporate
information assets.

•         Champion standardization, integration, and ubiquity of BI tools
and processes.

•         Collaborate with management, project managers, and IT to evaluate
required data and reporting functionality, communicate tradeoffs and
alternative solutions, and plan out, prioritize, and lead related
development efforts.

•         Lead cross-functional project teams to incorporate new data
sources into the data warehouse, expose related attributes and metrics in
MicroStrategy, and utilize BI tools to develop reports, visualizations,
dashboards, and other solutions that allow data to be analyzed and acted on.

•         Adopt existing and establish new technical design patterns,
workflows & tools to build sustainable analytics solutions that provide
decision support for stakeholders.

•         Identify and communicate trends, usage patterns, growth patterns,
and other key insights within the data that will support business decisions.

•         Lead projects using Lean methodologies and regularly coach other
project personnel to ensure analytical solutions are delivered in
compliance with Freight BI standards.

•         Mentor BI staff in the technical areas used by the analytics
team, both formally in structured group settings and informally in
one-on-one and small group sessions.



*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:*

•         MBA or Master’s degree in mathematics, economics, engineering, or
computer science and 3+ years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree in
mathematics, economics, engineering, or computer science and 5+ years of
related experience generally required.  Will accept any suitable
combination of education, training and/or experience.

•         Experience applying technology to business programs – ability to
quantitatively describe problems and engineer solutions.

•         3-4 years’ experience manipulating data (obtain, scrub, explore,
model, interpret data) using advanced Excel formulas, Microsoft Access,
Tableau, Minitab, and/or SQL editors like AQT, Toad, SQL Developer, etc.,
in order to communicate related insights.

•         1-2 years of Business Intelligence experience developing,
designing and building BI systems, models and analytic frameworks. BI
platforms include MicroStrategy (preferred), Business Objects, and/or
Cognos, etc.

•         1-2 years’ experience of best practices and principles in SQL,
query design, data validation/automation, analytic functions and understand
differences between various database implementations, such as Netezza,
Oracle, Teradata, DB2, SQL server, and/or MS Access.

•         Experience in ETL, data modeling, dashboards, report design,
analytics, and data mining.

•         Knowledge of multivariate statistical analysis, including
regression analysis, decision trees, cluster analysis and direct/database
marketing analysis.

•         Strong analytical skills and clear understanding of Data
Warehouse concepts including patterns for time variance and generic vs.
explicit data structures, standards-based approaches for object names and
data types, and using logical data models to document and explain business
objectives.

•         Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems – geospatial data,
GIS analysis and workflow, and cartographic and graphic design principles.

•    Strong MS Excel and MS Access skills.

•    Strong written and oral communication skills, presentation skills, and
the ability to build relationships.

•    Ability to identify details within an ambiguous environment.

•    Methodical, organized approach to work
