Position Title SQL Server Database Administrator
Department Information Technology Duration 3 Months Contract to Hire (US citizen, Green Card, EAD only) Work Location Las Vegas, NV Shift Day / Swing / Grave / On-call Primary Job Responsibilities The primary objective of the SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is to develop and maintain the corporate SQL Server databases ensuring data integrity, security, retention, and recoverability of the data. In this role, the DBA will design, build, test, and deploy quality database solutions that are consistent with project objectives, technology architecture standards and departmental best practices. The DBA will design and implement database strategies, administer enterprise-wide data architecture, implement complex data structures, and provide daily management of corporate databases. The DBA will create and administer database objects from design to deployment utilizing subject matter expertise to design or re-use, configure, and implement database solutions/processes that maximize system availability, efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, recoverability, and supportability. Specific responsibilities include: . All aspects of database administration including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migration, capacity planning, performance tuning, backup and recovery. . 24x7 rotational on-call support, including driving Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Preventative action follow-through, and participation in weekly operations reviews. . Change management including maintenance of multiple development, test, QA, and production environments. Responsible for deploying approved changes to production. . Proactive database monitoring and issue resolution . Database and T-SQL optimization including performance tuning, query optimization and supportability. . Actively participate and contribute to projects involving enterprise database systems enhancements to meet business requirements. Participate in project design and SQL Server database design decisions. . Develop and implement Database security policies and procedures, in line with corporate objectives . Responsible for evaluating patch releases and patching requests from development, and communicating constraints, issues, and timelines for deployment. . Implementation and ongoing support of high availability architecture standards and technologies. . Create and maintain appropriate documentation about the database and the data architecture. . Support data management solutions including: ETL processing, data archive, data purge, etc. . Regular proactive capacity planning and tending reviews of all SQL Server databases. Producing weekly, monthly management reports. . Project sizing process - including design reviews as necessary to appropriately size new environments, recommend design strategies and deliver associated cost and resource effort estimates Job Requirements . Must have 5 - 7 years SQL Server DBA working experience with SQL Server. Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) or higher certificates on SQL Server 2000 & 2005. . Must be knowledgeable and experienced on the different versions of SQL Server (2000, 2005). Knowledge of SQL Server 2008 and possible benefits to the existing environments. . Must have skills and experience in Database data management - backups, ETL, and archive using either native SQL Server backup tools and/or LiteSpeed. . Demonstrate administration of very large SQL Server Databases including maintenance and consistency checks and the application of partitioning functions/schemas. . Experienced in collaborating with data warehousing developers. Knowledge of BI toolsets including SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and MS Sharepoint. . Management of multiple processing schedules and notification strategies. . Strong skills in T-SQL, DOS, PowerShell, tuning and debugging. Experience with SQL Server Manager, Visual Studio, DTS/SSIS and other SQL Server tools including but not limited to Profiler & SQL Server Command Line Utilities . Experience with SQL Server database replication and mirroring . Experienced in security/access strategies for a wide pool of user groups and developers with different access requirements. . Ability to maintain a positive attitude while working with high demands and short deadlines . Ability to prioritize heavy workload with minimum supervision. . Highly adaptable with ability to work in a fast paced demanding environment . Must have excellent communications and interpersonal skills. . Ability to work well with development and infrastructure teams in doing database design, changes and enhancement to new and existing applications. . Strong organizational and analytical skills. . Understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery requirements and solutions. Not Required, but Preferred: . Experience in data modeling and metadata management . Understanding of or experience supporting .NET application . Understanding of or experience with virtual environments Education BS/BA degree in a related technical discipline.
