*Linux Enterprise Architect  *



The Linux Enterprise Architect will have experience with the design,
implementation and support of complex enterprise Linux solutions, including
servers, Linux thin clients, and open source solutions in support of the
Linux infrastructure.   TDCJ is a user of large mainframe and web based
applications which support its primary mission.  It also has several complex
financial, payroll and personnel systems for back office operations.   In
order to reduce the cost of operation and begin deploying more applications
to their field offices across Texas, they are moving to open source
technologies and providing access to Linux applications.   An experienced
Linux Enterprise Architect is needed to support the development of their
technology plans, design and deploy Linux systems, and help consult and
support with network and application development personnel who will be part
of the Linux team.



The candidate should have a minimum 8 years experience with Linux; some Suse
Linux required.   This should include 2 years recent experience with Linux
in clustered environments.



Preferred certifications include Novell Certified Linux Engineer and Red Hat
Certified Engineer (RHCE).

The candidate should have experience with the following hardware, software
and other technology tools:



   - X Windows
   - LDAP
   - SSH/SFTP
   - NX / FreeNX
   - CUPS
   - HTTP/HTTPS
   - MySQL
   - DNS
   - DHCP
   - NTP
   - SNMP



Additional experience includes:

   - Managing users in a Linux environment; password aging, groups, disk
   quotas.
   - Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux security and best practices.  Knowledge
   of data security standards.
   - Building custom kernels from source, replacing parts of the OS from
   source.
   - Compiling and installing open source software (from source code).
   - Customizing open source software, and modifying source code written in
   C and C++
   - Packing and unpacking squashfs file systems; customizing flash code to
   be loaded on embedded systems.
   - Experience deploying and managing thin clients (embedded systems
   running Linux intended to replace desktops)
   - Automating and building tools using scripting languages (sh, ksh, perl,
   etc)
   - Understands the concepts of server virtualization and proficient with
   at least one of:  VMware, Xen, KVM
   - Use , configuring, and supporting Open Office.
   - Use package management tools (rpm, yast, yum, zypper, etc) and have
   setup and run package repositories before.
   - Set up and maintain open source tools for monitoring and trending
   (Cacti, Zabbix, Nagios, etc)
   - Creating and managing system documentation, including configurations
   and backup procedures.
