| Duties & Responsibilites : | The individual will function as the primary subject matter expert for Sybase database administration service operations. This involves performing incident and problem resolution, standard service requests, infrastructure monitoring and alert response, and consultation with application support and development staff. The individual will be part of a 24x7 on-call rotation. Cell phone contact information is required.
Additional requirements and responsibilities include:
•Deep experience in Sybase database performance tuning techniques
•Ability to identify and correct gaps in standard operation procedures and checklists
•Competency in ITIL processes: Incident, Problem, Knowledge and Change Management
•Competency in Root Cause Analysis and Cause Mapping
•Coaching other database administration team members toward a functional understanding of Sybase databases
•Ability to assess varying types of incidents and determine appropriate subject matter experts to involve when necessary
•Basic scripting knowledge: SQL, Unix shell, Perl
•Basic awareness of other infrastructure technologies – for example, Websphere, Informatica PowerCenter, Business Objects, Unix and windows server administration, storage, or data networking.
•Data modeling skills
•Is proficient with advanced monitoring tools and ability to coach others in their use.
•Awareness of Service Management target metrics
•Experience with application of Sybase database patches
•Experience with other Sybase technologies such as Replication Server and Direct Connect
The following skills, while not required, are also helpful:
•Competency with MS SQL Server and related BI Suite software
•Ability to learn new technologies with limited direction
•Ability to effectively communicate issues and solutions across all levels of the organization
•Ability to manage infrastructure projects such as patching cycles and migrations
