| Duties & Responsibilites : | Responsibilities: 1. Responsible for ensuring availability, security and performance of production databases. 2. Work with other Infrastructure teams to ensure that the associated hardware resources are adequately allocated to the databases. 3. Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime. 4. Responsible for providing trend analysis to the Capacity Planning team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management. 5. Responsible for problem escalation to Oracle and other third parties as appropriate. 6. Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollouts, upgrades and patches. 7. Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the application development teams. Qualifications / Skills: • Logical database design. • Physical database design with understanding of indexing and table/index partitioning using Oracle. Also, knowledge of tablespace tuning and management. • Experience with Oracle 11g. • Understanding of Oracle’s DDL and DML statements and the ability to write scripts to install DDL. • Ability to use PL/SQL to write stored procedures, triggers, and packages. • Experience with creating and managing Oracle jobs. • Understanding of Oracle schema management including creating users, granting appropriate system privileges, and granting object privileges. • Understanding of Oracle’s backup and recovery – RMAN. • Understanding of Oracle DataGuard and how it impacts Database Design. • Ability to tune Oracle SQL and PL/SQL. • Knowledge of using explain to help troubleshoot poorly performing queries. • Experience with Oracle monitoring using OEM dbconsole. • Working knowledge of Oracle’s Data Dictionary. • Oracle Script writing using SQLPLUS and UNIX shell (ksh, bash). • Java/Relational Database programming (IBatis/Hibernate). • Experience with JEE/J2EE standards. • Shell scripting. • Defines and coordinates standards, patch and upgrade management, performance tuning, technology research, system security, and system documentation. • Monitors system availability and provides corrective action when outages are detected. Escalates situation to Oracle and/or the application development team. • Assists in designing, processing and analyzing system metrics reports. • Mentors and trains other System Administrators on the WebLogic platform. • Ability to work within an established Change Control Process. • Strong problem solving skills. • Excellent communication skills are important. • Ability to work in a team atmosphere but also work effectively with minimum direction, remotely if required. • Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. |
