System Engineer position to provide highly skilled, senior-level technical expertise, guidance and support in the areas of server and applications architecture, systems design and integration, specialized code deployments, troubleshooting and Internet/Intranet deployment.
-Seeking a highly skilled, technologically diverse, senior-level engineer with experience working in multi-tiered server environments.
Daily tasks include but not limited to, technical solution design and delivery, application deployment, and application operations.
-This position will provide technical guidance and support in the areas of server and applications architecture, systems design and integration, specialized code deployments, and Internet/Intranet deployment.
-Position will be involved in many aspects of Engineering & Technology section in VDOT’s IT Division in supporting a sundry of agency applications.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete assigned project responsibilities under limited supervision.
-Able to analyze business requirements and define solutions to address complex business needs.
Extensive systems administration experience on the Windows Server platform, including the following technologies:
-SQL Server Administration, including experience with SQL Clustering, SQL DB encryption, Application High-Availably, BizTalk, Visual Studio, TFS, as well as experience in web infrastructure design and operations including IP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, load balancing, firewall rules, failover, monitoring, diagnostics, performance tuning, etc.
-Experience in architecting Microsoft Internet/Intranet solutions, SQL migrations, query writing, ability to understand and perform limited custom coding for different solutions. Possess high aptitude for problem-solving and trouble-shooting.
-Knowledge of requirements and tools for application, database and server security and mitigate risks for audit points.
-Prepares detailed system deployment documentation and operations manuals.
-Plans and executes stress test for web applications.
-Installs and configures application software for project teams meeting project deadlines.
-Ability to asses needs, make recommendations and perform upgrades of application software as required.
-Experience and skills in prevailing industry architecture and engineering methodologies such as ITIL.
-Works closely with client/application architects, senior managers, and project managers to design and assist with the implementation of the solutions infrastructure related components.
-Ability to work under pressure while meeting project deadlines.
-Relies on years of experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, independently performs a variety of complicated tasks, while a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
-College Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience in applications and server architecture desired.
