*Position: SQL Server Windows 2003 Migration Specialist*

*Location: Springfield, IL*

*Duration: Long term *

*SQL Server Windows 2003 Migration Scope*

Our client is migrating server environment from Windows 2003 to Windows
2008. Currently, there are 3 QA and 10 production database clusters running
on the Windows 2003 platform. The scope is to migrate application databases
to new Windows 2008 server environment. Following are the details of
databases running on these servers.

*Phase I*

*3 QA servers will be migrated *

QASPSQL05 SQL MS SQL SERVER 100 +
databases

QASPSQL07 SQL MS SQL SERVER 10
databases

QASPSQL20081 SQL MS SQL SERVER 160
databases

*Assumptions for QA*

· Client will build new servers with Windows and SQL loaded on it

· The server will be patched by Client

· Sufficient disk storage for the migration will be attached. The
storage may not match exactly between the host and target

· Vendor will be provided System administrator privileges

· The QA servers can be migrated after hours or on Saturday/
Sunday. This will be the responsibility of vendor.

· The QA migration will happen straight through beginning to end

· Vendor will copy all database objects from the host server to the
migration target server this includes databases, logs, logins, jobs, job
schedules, stored procedures, SSIS jobs, etc.

· Any issues caused by the migration will be handled by the vendor

· Communication will be handled by a Client PM or other Client
Management

· Client DBAs will provide guidance on policies, procedures and
overall environment

Once databases are migrated to new QA servers, Client applications team
will be performing the testing. It will be the responsibility of vendor to
resolve database issues found during the testing. As applications are
certified on the new environment, databases of corresponding applications
will be moved to production environment. Migration to production
environment happens during scheduled outage windows on Wednesday, Friday
and Sunday. Vendor will be assisting in the migration of application
databases during the outages windows.

*Productions servers Phase II*

10 clusters servers will be migrated in phase II

SPIPSPSQL01 and cluster SPIPSPSQL02 SharePoint SQL Server 30 databases

SPIPSQL01 and cluster SPIPSQL02 SQL SERVER 13
databases

SPIPSQL07 and cluster SPIPSQL08 SQL SERVER 76
databases

SPIPSQL09 and cluster SPIPSQL10 SQL SERVER 36
databases

SPIPSQL11 and cluster SPIPSQL12 SQL SERVER 98
databases

*Assumptions for Production*

· The servers will be built by client with windows and clustering
configured

· Security scan will need to be performed at different intervals.

· Sufficient disk storage for the migration will be attached. The
storage may not match exactly between the host and target. client resources
will be performing this task.

· SQL will need to be patched to the current patch level

· Sufficient disk storage for the migration will be attached

· The vendor will have systems administer privileges on the
database servers

· The servers will be migrated during the scheduled outage windows

· Most servers will be a straight through migration but some
databases will have to be migrated individually at different time periods.
Plan on 50 databases needing to be done separately

· The vendor will copy all database objects from the host server to
the migration target server this includes databases, logs, logins, jobs,
job schedules, stored procedures, SSIS jobs, etc.

· New backup jobs will may need to be configured
