*Summary of required skills:*
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- MySQL or other SQL database administration (writing simple SQL
queries, etc.)
- Linux system administration experience (ssh, simple shell scripts,
etc.)
- US Citizenship probably required for Federal systems?
*Summary of work:*
- Review Inventory fields with assigned Ops team members
- Create list of fields to be audited
- Create requirements for each field, i.e. expected values and
process to validate accuracy
- For example, this list will include but not be limited to:
- Validating BU assignment of systems against role assignments and
purchasing records, to ensure systems are associated with the correct
Business Unit
- Validating status (production, deployed, disposed,
decommissioned)
- Review status of several monitoring, auditing, and configuration
tools
- Determine which Linux hosts are not reporting Puppet status to
Inventory
- Investigate cause of failure to report
- Document cases of Puppet failures, categorize
- Document cases of communication and other failures, such as
Puppet being disabled
- Open JIRA tickets to track the work to fix these issues
- Ensure that all hosts accurately reporting have monitoring enabled
in Nagios and will report any future failures
- Ensure that all hosts not accurately reporting have monitoring
disabled and associated to the appropriate JIRA ticket, so it can be
enabled when the issue is resolved
- There may be some other common monitoring cases we should audit
which could be included, such as our disk failure monitoring, etc.
