*Title: Cassandra Engineer - We are seeking a candidate with Cassandra
experience to support our production environment and new growth products
that will use Cassandra. *

*Need someone hands on that can efficiently manage servers and
applications. They would measure twice and automate at once. You drive
innovation, challenge inefficiencies, and seek to increase the productivity
of your team. Contract only for now - Committed to the end of the year and
likely to extend to a full 12 months (EOY commitment to align with budget
year)*



*Primary responsibilities will include: *

• Configuring and supporting Cassandra

Experience in Eslastic search is a plus

• Work with core development teams to test, deploy and maintain scalable,
robust software platforms and services.

• Work in a continuous build and deploy environment

Analyze and propose optimal Cassandra configurations

Develop operational processes and best practices for a high-availability
environment that is efficient to support

• Define test and verification processes for production services

• Monitor, test, and maintain production services

• Define and operate live A/B testing of production services

• Application and Server deployment

• Security

• Automation

• Handle production user support escalations



*Key Competencies: *

• 5+ years Linux system admin experience – changed to 5 (from 4)

• Configuration Management (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc) is a plus; Puppet
preferred

• Java Application Support (Tomcat, Dropwizard, Spring, etc) Which do you
prefer? We use all of them

• NoSQL (Cassandra preferred)

• Elasticsearch

• Scripting (Shell, Perl, Ruby, etc) Perl is challenging to find, out of
these three which scripting experience do you require/prefer? Ruby

• Virtualization (VMware preferred but OpenStack is OK)

• AD Kerberos and LDAP security

• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, Load balancers

• Server, network and performance monitoring

• Version Control System (Git preferred)

• F5 LTM, GTM, security and SSO a plus



*Other tasks that will be required: *

• Ability to be on-call 24-7 during scheduled on-call times to respond to
emergencies – How often do the workers need to be on call 24-7? Is this
mandatory? They are not on-call per say - not much at all in fact. But if
there are releases in the middle of the night or issues they may be called
upon to work after-hours.

• Any other tasks assigned by the company from time to time – Please expand
on example tasks that this contract can be handling from time to time? If
we need a training session or something related to his job.

• Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory or management
staff.
