Position Description:
Experience Level: 4 year degree plus 10 or more years experience.
The Infrastructure Architecture position is in the Internet Services
Department - Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering (IAE) group. The
Architects work on all the Wells Fargo retail web sites including the public
site, the secure sites, and supporting back end systems. Infrastructure
Architects are responsible for the infrastructure architecture designs,
capacity planning, design governance, technology evaluation and analysis,
and consultation on the web sites project road map for the Wells Fargo
retail web site applications. The Architects collaborate with the security
and audit teams to implement and address the ever changing needs of each
application.
Primary Job Responsibilities for the Database Infrastructure Architect This
individual must demonstrate Technical Architectural Leadership, playing a
vital role in the design of Wells Fargo's secure online infrastructure
running in 24x7x52 environment. They must deliver designs that meet project
requirements, are on time, and are on budget. Specifically this individual
needs to create standards and go forward designs for the Database layouts
and tuning, File system layout and vendor technologies, Storage use and I/O
tuning, Geographical Database Replication, High Availability, and ability
to meet Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Recovery Time and Point
Objectives (RTO/RPO).
Analyze business and technical requirements to determine database design,
potential issues, and related cost for each project request. Contribute
significantly to feature prioritization and systems architecture.
Review Requirement Documents, and develop implementation strategies that
preserve the availability, performance, integrity, stability, and
scalability of site systems and designs, consistent with cost (Capital and
Labor) constraints.
Produce design documents to effectively handover infrastructure architecture
to other Operations departments for successful systems engineering and
implementation.
Develop design standards and guidelines, and mentor other architects and
engineers on best practices.
Demonstrate expertise and leadership in problem solving expertise. Work with
Business Analysts, Web Engineers, Network Engineers, Systems Administrators,
Applications Developers, Architects, Data Base Administrators, Operations
persons, and Software Vendors to prevent or solve difficult performance
problems.
Interact with internal and external technical leaders to develop innovative
solutions that meet market needs with respect to availability,
functionality, performance, reliability, repeatability, and scalability.
Facilitation and team-building skills at all levels. Ability to influence,
train, mentor and leverage the skills of others, including business partners
and technical team.
Contribute to the selection, prototype, and implementation of 3rd party
software (e.g. application server software), hardware, network devices, and
technical solutions.
Ability to thrive in a high-pressured but highly structured,
customer-oriented environment. Ability to multi-task multiple projects at
once
Minimum Qualifications:
12+ years of overall technical experience on Oracle Database and/or other
Databases.
6+ years of design and architecture of Oracle Databases, file system
design/layout, through put and I/O needs, high availability, geographical
considerations, oracle RAC, partitioning, tables, schemas, purging,
archiving, and storage.
Current with the latest and upcoming Hardware and Software from HP, Sun,
Dell, IBM, Oracle, Red Hat, VMWare, and F5.
Designed/Architected and implement fault tolerant systems for Databases.
Designed/Architected and Highly Available Databases.
Designed/Architected replication for Databases across WANs.
Understand the latest Oracle, MSQL, DB2, etc to design the up and coming
databases to use the latest features and product sets.
Participated or Lead non-functional specification gathering for design,
capacity planning, and performance predictions.
Ability to lead engineers in understanding new processes for databases as
it applies to all preproduction and production environments.
Knowledge of the Industry options and current working experience with:
o Distributing customer traffic across multiple data centers and tiers of
systems.
o Virtualization Technologies (VMware, Sun, Grid, Cloud, Clustering, etc).
