Client:  DIR - Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) 

Need: Cobol Developer
Loc:  Austin, Texas

The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) in Austin,
Texas is a state agency responsible for working in partnership with Texans
with disabilities and families with children who have developmental delays
to improve the quality of their lives and to enable their full participation
in society.  DARS is one of several agencies under the Health and Human
Services Commission (HHSC). 

DARS Information Resources (IR) is in the process of developing a case
management application (ReHabWorks) for the agency.  A component of this
project is to analyze the existing 'batch' applications and determine the
most efficient way to insure they will accomplish the new business
requirements.  There are currently 4 Cobol programs and 8 store procedures
that will need to be modified.  The identified applications are written
utilizing an Informix database.  Informix will continue to be the database
for ReHabWorks.   


 The analysis, decision-making, and documentation activities shall be
developed with assistance and input from key DARS management and technical
and other parties deemed appropriate by DARS IR through meetings. 

Worker will work with DARS IR team to analyze the identified Cobol programs
and modifying the existing Cobol program or convert to a Stored Procedure.

All modifications to the existing applications shall adhere to DARS IR
standard utilizing DARS IR standard architecture.

Experience developing and maintaining Cobol programs. 


           4+ 

Experience in developing applications / queries using an Informix database. 


           4 + 

Experience in developing and maintaining Informix Store Procedures. 


Strong 

Experience in reading Development Use Cases and applying the required
changes to the existing application. 


Strong 

Experience analyzing existing Cobol programs to determine, based on the
business requirements, if the program would be more efficient re-written in
a stored procedure. 


Strong 

Working in a team environment 


Strong 

Experience successfully completing tasks under a tight deadline. 


Degree or Equivalent 

BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of
