Minimum of 10+ years Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing experience,
including; experience in logical, access, and physical data modeling;
hands-on technical experience with data warehouse, business intelligence and
analytics products; and experience with implementing normalized and
dimensional data warehouses. (See work Experience section for complete
details).

*WORK EXPERIENCE*:


*Ideal candidate will have an understanding of:*
• The full Cognos 8 BI toolset with hands-on experience with the Cognos 8 BI
toolset (Framework Manager, PowerPlay, Transformer, Analysis Studio, Report
Studio, and Query Studio as an Architect, developer, and administrator
• Experience designing, data modeling (dimensional/star schemas,
materialized views and denormalized relational schemas), and developing data
warehouses using Oracle (OWB, DI, etc.) or SQL Server 2005/2008 and
exposure/experience with ETL tools such as AbInitio, Informatica, DataStage
• Experience with relational database management systems like Oracle, SQL
Server, etc.
• Ability to translate user requirements into Cognos models, cubes, reports,
scorecards, dashboards, and portals
• Experience in setting up Cognos Security using NTLM or Active Directory
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, couples
with exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Ability to train other data warehouse and client staff in designing,
developing models and reports using the Cognos studios
• Underlying technical architecture for systems in the financial and
operational information systems area
• Insurance applications
• Experience/exposure with one or more of the following: VB.NET, ASP.NET,
JavaScript, XML, or XSLT.

*PRIMARY DUTIES:*
Near-term responsibilities for the position will include among other things:

• authoring and enhancing queries and reports within a data warehouse
platform
• updating existing ETL as necessary to improve performance
• documenting technical requirements / modifications for the design of new
reports
• working with guidance from consultants/architects to develop an improved
ETL process
• partnering with business users to scope programming efforts, develop cost
estimates, create technical specs
• assessing potential limitations and risks associated with any BI&A
solutions developed by IT or the business partners
• leads the maintenance and enhancement of existing reports
• leads the technical design and development of new interfaces
• collaborates with consultants/architects to create new dimensional OLAP
cube structures
• performs ad hoc analyses as required
• provides recommendations on the evolution of the architecture of the
overall business intelligence platform/capability
• advocates the use of modern database technology platforms and associated
toolsets and techniques to develop and/or redesign business applications
including:
-Teradata
-SQL Server
-Data Modeling tools such as Erwin
-ETL tools such as AbInitio
-BI Tools such as Cognos
• Understands SDLC life cycle methodologies and best practices and how they
apply to both OLTP and BI projects.
Other duties may be assigned or may be modified depending on project work.
