Big Data Analyst Philadelphia, PA Duration: 6-12 months This will require a phone interview and an on-site interview. Position Charter & Experience · The Data Analyst will collect and analyze data to reveal insights regarding the processes, procedures and performance of Comcast’s cutting edge IP video products and their operation. · In this critical role, you will access multiple tools and “big data” sources to calculate metrics critical to our operation, e.g. mean-time-to-repair and system up-time. You will correlate ties between those metrics and other data events and patterns, e.g. product usage, customer support calls and production outages. · You will develop a procedural model for operations analysis, facilitate management decisions and inspire important, new questions for us to answer toward our operational excellence goals. · You will interface with other analysts, project management, and technical leads across multiple teams and evangelize an ethic of constant improvement thanks in part to the insights you provide. · This is a contract-to-hire position reporting into Operations – part of an Engineering organization. Key Accountabilities · Work with other analysts and to facilitate management decisions in both the Operations team (e.g. procedure changes) as well as Engineering (e.g. architecture changes). · Effectively interview stakeholders to establish a firm understanding of problem statements as well as operational and business objectives. · Apply querying skills (R, SQL) to pull from large data stores, e.g. “big data” & Hadoop. · Manage and escalate risks & opportunities as needed as well as track a “backlog” of data source needs and feature requirements critical to ensuring delivery of insights. · Assist in developing a procedural model for analysis and operational improvement. · Assemble metrics, insights and recommendations for Management, hosting meetings to socialize takeaways and field follow-up questions as needed. · Apply your own technical knowledge to offer recommendations and solve problems. · Occasional travel to Denver, CO for tool orientations and cross-team meetings. Qualifications · 5 years in a Data Analyst or Business Analyst role – preferably in Banking, Finance, Advertising, Marketing or other highly accountable, data-driven vertical. · 5 years experience with statistics and data mining work, including big data (R & Hadoop). · 5 years proven track record delivering insights to Management in a complex ecosystem · 5 years using querying skills to pull data from various sources, e.g. big data. (R, SQL) · 5 years working in Hadoop and Tableau … or comparable data sources. · 5 years exposed to database operations, e.g. architecture, deployments, upgrades. · Adept and comfortable working in a fast-paced and rapidly changing matrix environment. · Ability to quickly establish credibility based on rapport and knowledge of resources. · Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks with a high level of detail · Effective facilitator with excellent analytical, problem solving and consensus building skills · Courageous, assertive and determined to remove impediments at all levels · Excellent verbal and written communication as well as organization and time mgmt skills. Nice-to-Haves: · 5-10 years working in Rosetta, Oracle and OBIEE systems · 5-10 years in Web or TV audience measurement and analysis a plus. · Experience with Omniture, Rentrak, Oracle; Splunk · BS in Math, Computer Science, or equivalent experience a plus.
