Location: Hartford, CT area or remote (up to 75% travel)

*Job Description:*
The Java Developer will work with Designers and Sr. Developers to build,
test, and debug new system features of the company's Insurer Policy and
Claims product. This role requires an expert in Java J2SE application
development, object-oriented development, configuration and integration of
software products, as well as strong knowledge of DB2 and SQL Server,
including ability to write complex queries. Financial Domain experience is
a must. Knowledge of P&C Insurance domain, especially Personal Lines
Policy and Claims Processing is a plus.
• Execute system builds and deployment of applications.
• Create or update documentation as appropriate for solutions
created
• Participate in code reviews as required.
• Re-create, analyze, debug and resolve system defects
• Make recommendations for revisions to design and code to
optimize results
• Contribute to improving software development approaches and
processes
• Receive in-house training, and become certified in Insurer
Policy and Claims product.
• Develop mastery of all technical aspects of Insurer Policy and
Claims product.
• Understand the company's delivery methodology (Agile Scrum) and
actively participate in the execution of assigned and related tasks.
• Record and report on work progress on a regular basis.
• Communicate clearly with business users and senior management,
verbally and in written form.
*Qualifications:*
Must have strong Financial domain experience
• P&C Insurance Knowledge, in particular Personal Lines Policy and
Claims Processing nice to have.
• Strong knowledge to a set of broad technical skills including:
o Software design skills using Object Oriented Analysis and Design
(OOA/D), with a broad comprehension of common Design Patterns, idioms, and
styles.
o OO Development for Java J2SE applications including Spring
Framework and Hibernate.
o XML, XSLT, XSD, WSDL
o HTML, JavaScript, JSP and DHTML, AJAX
o MVC, Servlets
o Web Services and APIs
o Relational databases (ability to write SQL queries)
o Continuous Integration / Version Control solutions capability
o WebSphere Application Server
• Working knowledge of the Agile Scrum development process, and
Scrum tool use as required for Scrum team participation – VersionOne, Jira,
etc.
• Solid verbal, written and presentation skills with both
technical and non-technical audiences to all levels of management.
