Dear Friend,

Thank you again for your support for Promise of India -- a collaborative effort among Indians all over the world who are rededicating themselves to the idea of a Democratic, Secular, Pluralistic, and United India.

It has been nearly six weeks since we launched Promise of India in
California, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 134th birth anniversary. We are happy to inform you that the Promise of India Appeal has since been endorsed by over 120 organizations worldwide, with a large diversity of interests, including business/entrepreneurship, grass roots development work, activism for Indian causes and religious groups, together representing thousands of individuals. Many prominent Indians have also offered their support for our effort. We are indeed gratified and emboldened by the support shown so far, as we plan our work ahead.

We have the goal of tripling the number of endorsing organizations, and adding thousands more signatures by January 2004, when we plan to meet in
Delhi to chart out our future activities. We need your help in reaching this goal. If you are an individual endorser of the Appeal, we would urge you to send an e-mail to friends and family encouraging them to sign the POI Appeal (see sample e-mail below). If you are an organizational endorser, we would urge you to request your board of trustees and membership to also sign the Appeal as individuals. You could also help us by forwarding the Appeal to other organizations that are interested in supporting the work for peace and development in India.

As a first step in planning our work, we are pleased to announce the Promise of India Conference 'Linking Peace and Development' on
January 8, 2004, which plans to bring experts from diverse fields to share their views and offer us direction. Please log on to our web site https://www.PromiseOfIndia.Org to see the program details and the registration form. The conference will be preceded on January 7, 2004 by the Promise of India<->Youth-4-Peace Unity Concert, with traditional, folk and fusion music, featuring Indian Ocean and other artists. We hope that you will be able to join us for these events.

Sincerely,
The Promise of
India Team

Re:  "Promise of India" Needs Your Support

Friends,

I am writing to share with you information about an exciting new initiative called the Promise of India, a collaborative effort among Indians all over the world who are rededicating themselves to the idea of a Democratic, Secular, Pluralistic, and United India.

They are running an online appeal called Promise of India Appeal on their website, calling on fellow Indians and the Government of India to condemn sectarian hatred and take effective steps to promote communal harmony. I have just endorsed the Appeal to show my support for this important initiative and would urge you to do the same. You may sign your name on line at https://www.PromiseOfIndia.org/Appeal.cfm, or simply send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with your name, city, state, country, e-mail address, and comments, if any.

Thank you
