LEAP is seeking student applicants and Southern California area CBO hosts for
the 2004 LEAP Leadership in Action summer internship program.
Sponsored by Anheuser Busch Companies, Leadership in Action (LIA) is an 8-week
summer internship program designed to develop emerging leaders by providing
college students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience working in
Asian Pacific American community-based nonprofit organizations in Southern
California.
Approaching it's seventh year, the program takes learning beyond the classroom,
and places the student interns in a range of APA organizations in order to gain
real-life experience working at nonprofits.
Interns will work 4 full days per week with an assigned staff supervisor at the
organization they are matched with. Work assignments differ according to each
organization's programs and needs.
Each week, the fifth day will be devoted to leadership development training or
issue discussions and group project work. Nationally recognized trainers will
deliver workshops in critical skill areas. Issue discussions are on local or
timely topics of interest and are facilitated by local community
leaders/activists and LEAP trainers.
The interns will also work on a community impact project. This project will give the students an opportunity to flex their leadership skills in a safe setting, as well as allow them to contribute something lasting to the Asian Pacific American community.
The 2004 program will be held in Los Angeles from June 17-August 13, 2004 Applications are due: Friday, March 5, 2004
