Political Research Associates
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Job Announcement
Political Research Associates (PRA) is a twenty-two year old independent research center and think tank that exposes and challenges the political Right and larger oppressive institutions, movements, and systems. PRA publishes its analysis and information in several formats, maintains a library of primary and secondary material on the Right that is open to the public, advises groups under attack from the Right, and provides speakers for small and large groups. We work with activists, journalists, researchers, students, and the general public.
The Executive Director shapes, guides and oversees PRAs program, fundraising, and administration, working closely with PRAs Director of Research and Director of Development and Communications. As a team, they are the leadership staff primarily responsible for PRAs overall health and performance.
With primary responsibility for fundraising, the Executive Director works closely with the Director of Development and Communications to nurture and identify individual donors and develop and maintain relationships with foundations. This work involves frequent meetings with donors, consulting with foundations, visiting foundation program officers, and speaking at conferences of grantmakers.
In collaboration with the Director of Research and other research staff, the Executive Director works with staff to establish research priorities for PRA, provide advice and guidance to staff on research-based publications, and gather, analyze and synthesize information about the political Right to make such information available and accessible to the public. This involves research, writing, publishing, editing, working with print and electronic media, and public speaking.
The Executive Director constantly works to build the network of organizations and individuals who are aware of PRAs work. This may involve attending meetings and conferences, serving on Boards of Directors, serving as a consultant to foundations, and speaking to (and providing materials to) collegial organizations, including churches and synagogues, grassroots organizations, and statewide coalitions.
Management responsibilities include organizational oversight and management of the yearly budget, personnel management, long and short range planning, many aspects of public relations, and organizational decision-making, and legal issues. The Executive Director oversees the recruitment of personnel, development of organizational procedures, general office communications and systems, and other operational concerns as needed. Because PRA has just completed a long-range planning process, the Executive Director will be responsible for the implementation of that plan.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
In our search for an Executive Director, we are looking for a dynamic individual who is able to provide intellectual leadership, has extensive fundraising experience, brings a team approach to management, and is willing to work with the media. Experience in leading an organization of similar size is desirable but not required. A Ph.D. is also desirable but not required. Candidate must be able to travel frequently.
Compensation: $65,000 - 70,000 plus generous health, dental, and disability insurance, and pension.
Deadline: Applications should be postmarked no later than March 15, 2004.
