Note to ALL: Please pardon me if this is clogging your inbox, as I am aware of this nuisance. It will be my last email. I want to convey to all SPAC members who are reading this that this is not meant to be a personal duel between Ravi Sharma and me. I feel that there are some ideals that SAPAC stands for and when things are said through its list that run counter to those ideals, it is important to speak out and take a stand. The views expressed below are my personal views.

Ravi,

Since you continue to raise questions about Romila Thapars work quoting what I said in my previous emails and have made some egregious statements, I feel compelled to respond. Out of your own admission, you have never read Thapars work because apparently you found from a distance that "it stinks". Despite never having read her book you think it is alright to write at least 10 emails about why you disagree with its contents. Either you think that the SAPAC list is a big joke and you can right whatever comes to your mind without basing it in any real facts and clog peoples inboxes OR you just have a lot of free time and you think it is perfectly alright to waste other peoples time.

Fortunately or unfortunately, it does not take too much imagination to see through your emails that you are clearly an unabashed supporter of Hindutva despite all your psuedo glorious talk about being neither on the left, right or center. If indeed it is true that you are not committed to any side, it is even worse because people like you will have no qualms about supporting even what is universally condemned as wrong. You constantly ask questions like why only blame the BJP? Why not focus on the Muslim Right? You then bash intellectuals and left activists, arguing that Thapar should be condemned for being a leftist intellectual. All this, coupled with your politically insensitive and ignorant statements about Muslims like all present day Muslims must apologize for Babar and Ghazni expose you as the most blatant s! upporter of the very forces of religious bigotry that SAPAC is fighting against. The thing about being a closeted Hindutva person is that it cant remain a secret for long once you start opening your mouth, the truth is all too apparent. You are in fact misusing the goodwill of open and progressive groups like SAPAC who allow people clearly opposed to its ideals, such as yourself, to speak through its forum.

At this point I think I will only say this: I only hope that you will at some future time see the danger of your views to Indias democratic secular nationhood. If there are members of SAPAC who feel strongly about this debate, I encourage them to take a public stand on this issue. Thank you all for your patience.

Best,

Mona Mehta
