Caf Finjan events will showcase the work of Jewish and Muslim artists, poets, writers, musicians and filmmakers.
The events will serve as a social space where Chicagoans from different religious, as well as cultural and ethnic backgrounds can come together to listen to good music and poetry, and give voice to their own identity and experience as part of a larger community. These evenings will serve as community building, social events, but also as opportunities to examine some of the larger social justice issues we face together.  Caf Finjan is a  project of Jewish Council on Urban Affairs, a Jewish social justice organization which works to fight racism, poverty and anti-Semitism in partnership with Chicagos diverse communities. This event is co-sponsored by KFAR Jewish Arts Center

Sultana captures the Judeo-Arabic musical tradition of al-Andalusia, where the Sephardic Jewish and Moroccan Muslims dwelled and played together for centuries.

Rosellen Brown has published ten books -- novels, poetry short stories, essays -- the most recent of which are the novels Half a Heart and Before and After and a reiissue of her short story collection, Street Games. She teaches in the MFA in Writing Program at the School of the Art Institute.

Sarwat Rumi is a bilingual Bengali American Muslim who has been writing since she could read.  By day, Sarwat is a teaches creative writing and battles violence
as a freelance facilitator of trainings and workshops for social service agencies; by night, she is a vigilante spoken word artist and singer; and really late night she casts her witchy superpowers to bind oppressive forces. Sarwat volunteers for Apna Ghar; is the vocalist for the experimental music duo, Serpent Feline; and is a member of MangoTribe, an APIA all woman theater group which implements art as a form of activism and healing.
