Subject: [india-unity] Muslim girls education - another myth debunked
Muslim backwardness in the field of education is mostly due to the government's policy of discrimination. An analysis of how and why the education levels of Hyderabadi Muslims fell dramatically after the fall of the Muslim rule there would prove my statement.
This is not to say that the failure of Muslim political and religious leadership in this regard should be taken lightly.
But things seem to be turning around.

Muslim girls have caught up with and then surpassed Non-Muslim girls in pass percent. We are quite sure that in the proportion of first-divisions also Muslim girls can equal Non-Muslim girls if they really try and can even surpass them if they try hard enough. It is just a matter of effort. That is all !

In the last report (MG 1-15 February 2004) we had shown the progress and improvement in 15 old girls’ inter colleges of Uttar Pradesh from 1976 to 2003. During this period, many new Muslim girls’ inter colleges have come up in this area and many erstwhile purely boys’ colleges have become co-educational. The 2003 XII Board Examination results of Muslim girls and Non-Muslim girls in 51 such “new” colleges are given in the Chart . From all these, 1704 Muslim girls appeared for XII in 2003 and 1546 or 91% passed. On the other side, from 37 of these colleges, 548 Non-Muslim girls also appeared in the same Examination and 480 or 88% passed. Out of 1704 Muslims, 475 or 28% got first-divisions while out of 548 Non-Muslims, 159 or 29% got first-division.
From all 66 (15 old and 51 new) colleges, 1197 Non-Muslim girls appeared, 978 or 82% passed and 284 or 24% got first division while 4064 Muslim girls appeared, 3686 or 91% passed and 942 or 23% attained first-division. The pass-percent of Muslim girls is slightly better. However, as we keep saying (and writing) again and again, pass-percent is NOT all. In these days of back-breaking competition, the proportion of first-divisions is more important than mere pass-percent and in this regard Muslim girls are still behind their Non-Muslim class-mates. This means that Muslim girls need to exert more.
There should not be even a semblance of an excuse for Muslim girls to be even slightly phisaddi in any of their own colleges in any way.
Measuring the comparative progress from 1976 to 2003, we find that the number appeared increased : Non-Muslims 306 to 1197 or 3.91 times, Muslims 836 to 4064 or 4.86 times. The number passed increased : Non-Muslims 200 to 978 or 4.89 times, Muslims 489 to 3686 or 7.54 times. The rate of progress of Muslim girls is faster, at least in these institutions. The number of first-divisions increased : Non-Muslims 5 to 284 or 56.8 times, Muslims one to 942 or exactly 942 times. Muslims seem to have progressed slightly faster than
