Subject: [YNPN Listserv] Racial Justice Leadership Institute 4/30-5/1
The Racial Justice Leadership Institute is a
seminar for social justice activists who wish to
sharpen their skills and strategies to address
structural racism and advance racial equity. The
two-day Institute, to be held April 30 and May 1,
will involve discussions and interactive
activities. Institute topics will include racial
awareness and analysis, research, issue
development, policy development and media
advocacy.
Unlike "diversity trainings" which focus on
interpersonal relations and cultural
understanding, the Institute emphasizes
institutional inequality--how it disadvantages,
disenfranchises and divid! es many communities and
how it can be effectively challenged and changed.
A participant at a previous Racial Justice
Leadership Institute held in Chicago said: "It
gave me an overall framework and analysis as well
as concrete tools to use in my organizing
work."
The Institute is designed for a diverse and
dynamic array of social change organizers,
activists and advocates committed to racial
justice, particularly from community organizing,
research, policy, advocacy and faith-based
organizations in the Chicago area. Because racial
inequity is a significant dynamic in nearly every
major policy issue in Chicago--from education and
housing to immigrant rights and criminal
justice--social change organizations and
community leaders are looking for more tools and
models for documenting, articulating, exposing
and
strategically challenging racial inequities.
Applicants must complete an application form
and are selected based on a variety of factors
including experience, interest, goals, and racial
and geographic diversity. Approximately 25
participants will be selected. Applications
received before the deadline will be given
priority consideration.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, April 16. Visit
http://www.arc.org/action_ed/index.html#rjli for
application info.
Feel free to email this to other colleagues and
friends who you think may be nterested.
Thank you for your interest in, and commitment
to, racial justice.
