Special preference will be given to persons who are affiliated with or
already have experience working with YCA. The positions we are hiring for
(teaching faculty/publications manager, teaching faculty/performances
manager, and office manager- see detailed descriptions below) are salaried
positions starting in mid-August 2004. The teaching faculty (publications
and performance managers) will earn 30K annually, work 30 + hours a week, no
benefits, 6 weeks off a year plus holidays. The office manager will earn
15K annually; work 30 hours a week, no benefits, 6 weeks off a year plus
holidays.

will be held on Saturdays, May 1 & 8. We will call you to schedule an

Teaching Faculty/Publications Manager
YCA seeks a highly organized, creative, self-motivated individual to run
�Watch the Steps,� the YCA publications wing that produces �Say What�
Magazine (Chicago�s premiere teen writing resource with a readership of
20,000) and 4-6 program-based youth literary anthologies annually. This
individual will also teach YCA youth writing workshops that cover a variety
of genres and subject matter.
Candidates for this position must possess the ability to coordinate and
balance multiple aspects of youth publication work, including organizing and
mentoring a teen editorial board, editorial oversight of all YCA
publications, coordinating and managing project schedules and budgets,
hiring and managing vendors and support services (artists, photographers,
designers, printers, etc.), marketing and distribution of publications and
(limited) fundraising for publication programs. The candidate must have a
willingness to work alongside YCA stakeholders to develop the vision and
practices of the publications wing in a small not-for-profit, youth-centered
environment.
Requirements:
*Bachelor�s degree in related field
*At least three years work experience in a community youth arts and/or
educational settings with youth from diverse backgrounds
*Extensive work experience in publication
*Extensive work experience leading creative writing workshops with
high-school or college-aged youth

*Ability to market and promote publications to schools, communities and

Than a Bomb.� This individual will also teach YCA youth writing workshops
that cover a variety of genres and subject matter.
Candidates for this position must possess the ability to coordinate and
balance multiple aspects of organizing and hosting youth-centered readings
and events, including being the curator of a weekly reading and workshop
series, recruiting, organizing and mentoring youth participants while
fostering an environment of excitement and learning in the literary arts,
extensive event promotion and publicity through schools, community programs
and local media, event oversight for all YCA performance-related activities,
managing project schedules and budgets, hiring and managing vendors and
support services (artists-in-residence, designers, printers, djs, emcees,
etc.) and (limited) fundraising for performance programs. The candidate must
have a willingness to work alongside YCA stakeholders to develop the vision
and practices of YCA readings and performance programs in a small
not-for-profit, youth-centered environment.

manage all of the administrative activities that facilitate the smooth
running of YCA�s youth writing center.
Candidates for this position must possess the ability to coordinate and
balance multiple aspects of maintaining office systems including daily
maintenance of equipment (computers, printers, telephone/voice mail and
fax), perform administrative duties such as answer telephones, distribute
incoming mail and correspondence, draft, type, edit, and review documents,
order office supplies, secure vendors and manage support services (tech
support, phone service, etc.) maintain database, files and records, arrange
and schedule calendar for space usage, deal with complex queries on the
telephone, by e-mail and in person, develop and maintain office systems for
cleanliness and resource conservation, upkeep information on YCA webpage,
manage email lists and design limited materials for programs. The candidate
must have a willingness to work alongside YCA stakeholders to develop the
vision and practices of YCA office systems in a small not-for-profit,
youth-centered environment.
Requirements:
*At least two years work experience in an administrative support position
*Experience in community youth arts and/or educational settings with youth
from diverse backgrounds
*Must be detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills
*Must communicate effectively, anticipating needs and keeping staff informed

*Individual must be resourceful and able to take initiative in a changing
