There is no doubt that 1994 was a landmark year for the Indian-American community with regard to political participation. Most observers of Indian-American politics would assert that 1994 marked a watershed year when three congressional candidates - Ram Uppuluri, Neil Dhillon and Peter Mathews - all sought Congressional seats. Though all failed in their bids, the 1994 campaign did manage to formalize an informal network of Indian-American active in politics. In addition, the community through the process became more sophisticated about fundraising and strategy. This day-long conference would serve to revisit the campaigns, learn about the successes and failures, and reflect on lessons learned.
