The Enterprise Architecture Office within IT/ETS needs to fill a 9-month
position to support the current Sr. Architect (Hosting Architect) position.
The candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities will need
to start as soon as possible.

Work Summary

 

This role is a member of the Enterprise Architecture Office in Information
Technology. The candidate, working closely under the direction of the Sr.
Architect, will assume specific day-to-day activities (such as managing
technology lifecycles, responding to technology variance requests, reviewing
and approving application development models, .) and assist in support of
other high level ongoing activities (strategy development). This individual
should have a broad technical background, able to support demand for
adjacent technologies (e.g. networking).

 

The Sr. Architect role provides overall direction, life cycle management and
leadership for the midrange and mainframe computing environments. This
individual assumes a lead role in the identification, analysis, evaluation,
life-cycle management and execution for midrange and mainframe computing,
storage, print, and other hosting technologies. Being an informed buyer of
technology assets and services from External Service Providers (ESP) is a
key responsibility of this position. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for: 

 

.         Develop, prioritize, coordinate and communicate the processes
necessary to ensure a highly reliable and capable computer-hosting
environment.

.         Manage the life cycle of all midrange and mainframe technologies. 

.         Work closely with the other tower leads

.         Provide leadership to extend the organization's ability to
optimize use of emerging technologies

.         Assist the strategic architects in making variances decisions

.         Stay current with midrange and mainframe technologies and make
recommendations for use based on business value

.         Participate in setting strategic direction.

.         Evaluate and assess risk as part of the life-cycle analysis 

.         Conduct analysis of assets deployment, use and acquisition, and
dispose of non-performing technologies

.         Participate in management of customer satisfaction, best practices
and benchmarking. 

 

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience:

 

.         Five years of progressively responsible Information Technology
positions in a midsized to large IT organization

.         Experience with midrange computing hardware environments to
include Sun, IBM, Intel based..

.         Experience with midrange and mainframe operating systems such as
Solaris, Windows based, Unix based, IBM based

.         Experience with web service hosting environments 

.         Experience managing technology life cycle

.         Experience determining technology needs based on business
objectives

.         Experience evaluating and making purchasing decisions of
technology

.         Experience analyzing new technology and making technology
recommendations

.         Experience managing technology deployment projects and effective
use of project planning tools and techniques

.         Experience with technical architecture. 

.         Experience working with and managing technology suppliers

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

.         Demonstrated competence with midrange and mainframe technologies

.         Demonstrated ability to assess IT trends of importance to business
direction

.         Strong analytical and conceptual skills

.         Demonstrated ability as a informed buyer of technology services

.         Demonstrated ability to proactively manage technology life cycles

.         Demonstrated ability in managing according to a budget

.         Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the technical
and business stakeholders

.         Leading and/or participation in teams. 

.         Strong understanding of the applications development

.         Convincingly articulates vision and strategy for complex technical
undertakings. 

.         Ability to use personal influence and communications processes to
align technology to business objectives

.         Self motivated without the need for significant management
oversight

.         Ability to deal with ambiguity and make expert judgments in
situations for which little to no precedent exists

 

Education:

 

The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree, with coursework in the
information processing or business-related curricula, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and
abilities can be acquired is necessary.
