*Job Summary:*
The geographic information specialist is responsible for supporting the
implementation of geographic information systems, advising business units on
increasing their effectiveness through the use of geographic information,
providing training to technical staff charged with the collection and
analysis of geographic data, and providing database design, implementation
and management services for ’ agency-wide geographic information sharing
platform.
*Job Responsibilities:**
• Must have system administration skills in ESRI products (e.g. installing
and maintaining ArcGIS server)
• Assists business units in analysis of their current geographic information
needs.
• Provides training and consulting to these business unites (e.g. on map
creation)
• Advises business units on opportunities to increase their effectiveness
through the additional uses of geographic information.
• Develops standards for collection, analysis, quality management, and
sharing of geographic information.
• Develops standards for geographic data collection devices, data analysis
tools and data management systems.
• Develops guidelines for sharing geographic information with the relief and
development community.
• Develops and provides training to staff in the collection and analysis of
geographic information.
• Supports the implementation of an agency wide GIS data sharing platform.*
*Qualifications: *
*• Bachelor’s degree in a GIS or IT related field. *
*• Certification in GIS database technologies desirable. *
*• Demonstrated proficiency in ESRI Administration Skills*
*• Ability to use database system modeling processes and tools. *
*• Good understanding of geographic information systems and data collection
tools including those offered by ESRI and Google. *
*• Knowledge of best practices, methods, tools, and techniques used to
collect, manage, and analyze geographic information. *
