*Background*

The Data Architect will work within a matrix-managed organization, as part
of the Analytics and Reporting service.  Working primarily with the
Enterprise Architect and the Analytics and Reporting Service Director to
help define data structures required to support the enterprise.

The data architect defines and manages the data structures required to
support the enterprise. The data architect is a focal point for
understanding data from the corporate perspective and representing the data
so it can be understood uniformly throughout the company. This role will
support multiple projects in building new data sets and data structures as
required, and for managing the distribution, replication and archiving of
data throughout the enterprise. This person will utilize a range of new
design techniques optimized for consumable data structures and must be
capable of teaching these new techniques to the project level designers.
The data architect must be able to help manage the balance of current and
future needs in both design and content. He/she must also resolve semantic
discrepancies in data definitions that arise among multiple sources and
projects. While logical data modeling is a preferred skill, this role
requires advanced skills in data design and physical implementation of
databases. This person is accountable for the following:

·      Develop information architecture.

·      Manage current and future needs in data design and content.

·      Resolve semantic discrepancies in data definitions that arise among
multiple sources and projects.

·      Gain consensus among users on common business data definitions.

*Scope: *

·      Define vision, strategy, and principles for data management.

·      Define standards for naming, describing, governing, managing,
modeling, cleansing, enriching, transforming, moving, storing, searching
and delivering all data within the enterprise.

·      Serve as a liaison between data consumers and data solution
development, integration, and governance teams.

·      Understand and explain how data is used and implication on people,
processes and technologies.

·      Responsible for the strategy and implementation of design and
maintenance of the enterprise data systems and their integrations.

·      Provides leadership and guidance in the definition and development
of data warehouse documentation and standards as well as design and
development of the enterprise data warehouse.

·      Provides organizational and technical leadership as it relates to
day-to-day data warehouse administration.

·      Strategy and implementation of regular reviews of overall physical
data warehouse structures for data integrity, performance quality,
recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations.

·      Plan, design and implement security protocols to safeguard mission
critical files and data elements.  Develops rules, procedures, and
standards for access and maintenance of shared data resources.

·      Reorganize database structures and maintains tables as needed
utilizing tools to reorganize or defragment database table spaces, tables,
and indexes to ensure that optimal design criteria are achieved.

·      Modify data warehouse as appropriate in response to changes in
administrative application protocols and operational requirements to ensure
that enterprise applications run at optimum speed and efficiency

·      Interact with analysts and developers to understand system
requirements from conceptual models, analyzes transactions and data
volumes, and designs the physical data warehouse

·      Conduct research and generate reports to facilitate capacity
planning.  Define and implement mechanisms to Monitor system space,
database allocation and other relevant criteria; verifies efficient use of
disk storage.

*Required Qualifications:*

·      Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Computer Science, Information
Systems or equivalent work experience as a DBA in a related field

·      A minimum of five years 5 years data warehouse development,
Oracle/PeopleSoft experience (CS, HCM, FMS)

·      Oracle 11g Database administration

·      Thorough understanding of relational database models and solid
knowledge of relational database techniques including dimensional modeling
for BI solutions.

·      Experience in designing, modeling, developing and supporting a large
data warehouse.

·      Experience defining and maintaining processes & procedures related
to data and information access and security.

·      Extensive experience with SQL and PL/SQL

·      Experience with data extraction and transformation software as well
as data integration software.

·      Experience in logical and physical database design, hands-on
modeling techniques, and development methodology; physical schema design of
table spaces, rollback segments, and data files.

·      Ability to manage a variety of competing priorities and to work
productively with colleagues to ensure that goals are attained in a timely
manner.

·      Ability to respond in a rapid manner to problems and issues related
to the RDBMS and the platform environment.

·      Excellent organizational, problem solving, and communication skills
(both technical and non-technical), and a track record of working
productively with technical staff, users and senior management.





Preferred Qualifications:



·      Experience working with higher education data warehouse environments
is highly desirable.

·      Demonstrated experience with Oracle OBIEE business intelligence
solutions.

·      Experience with Informatica PowerCenter.

·      Experience patching and maintaining Oracle Environments.

·      Experience with Unix scripting.
