Whenever a user types in a query or browses through product categories on the web site, phone or the iPad, our service goes to work. We mine structured and semi-structured data from product catalogs, social web, transactions, query logs, etc. at an unprecedented scale. Product Genome team is working on building a Universal Product Catalog that finds and organizes best of breed rich content and attributes for every product in the world. Product Genome uses various Big Data Data Mining techniques for attribute extraction, categorization and relationship mining to further enhance this data. This project involves many key engineering challenges as we deal with a huge data set (Billions of products and Terrabytes of data). Fast and automatic data normalization, extraction and categorization requires advanced Machine Learning and Data Mining techniques. And finally, presenting this data optimally to users across Walmart Stores, Mobile and Online requires deciding which content/attribute is most relevant for that user in that context. We work on big data problems, cutting edge relevance algorithms from information retrieval, machine learning, and ranking to deliver a high-availability, low-latency service, which directly impacts business metrics. We work on building state of the art tools for our partners and internal customers to manage and utilize this data *Position Description* The Opportunity: ● Help invent the next generation of ecommerce; integrated experiences that leverage product data for various use cases across Walmart online and stores ● Work with world-class technologists and product visionaries as a contributing member of the client core engineering team ● Work with Java, Distributed Systems and Big data related technologies to design and develop high-performance and scalable sytems and data pipelines for use within the @WalmartLabs product ecosystem ● Help the team leverage and contribute to open source software whenever possible (Cassandra, Gearman, Hadoop, etc.) ● Be responsible for laying the foundation for the platform as well as proposing solutions to ease software development, monitoring of software, etc. ● Be excited about making an immediate impact on a global scale *Minimum Qualifications* The Desired Skill-Sets: ● BA/BS from a top school in Computer Science or a related technical discipline ● *Programming experience in Java* ● Experience *building large scale distributed systems or applications* ● Experience with *Linux systems is a plus* ● Experience with *building large scale frameworks or contributing to open source projects a plus.* ● Experience with *Hadoop, Hive and related big data systems is a plus* ● Ability to operate effectively and independently in a dynamic, fluid environment ● Eagerness to change the world in a huge way by being a self-motivated learner and builder *1036 Sr. Software Engineer - Mountain View - 4 Months+* *Technical/Functional Skills:* - Strong in programming in Java and JavaScript or related languages - 5+ years of Database or Big Data experience - 2+ years of hands-on experience with Cassandra Database - Experience and exposure in Java /JEE technology and related frameworks - Experience in Open Source Technologies - Experience in different OS including different flavors of Unix and Linux - Highly motivated, positive, detail oriented and responsible - Team player with good communication skills - Broad knowledge of different database systems and technologies, a plus. *Experience:* - Experience designing, implementing, and tuning commercial quality applications that leverage NoSQL databases. - 2+ years of hands-on experience with *Cassandra Database, preferably with large clusters (size of Cassandra cluster they worked on).* - Experience in major *NoSQL databases.
