Linux kernel versions 2.2.X do not support files > 2GB unless you run on a
native 64Bit architecture or you have a patched kernel (with the lvs
extensions). Using those, you may however interact badly with other kernel
patchs, like Reiserfs if you want to do that. Some 2.2 based distributions
have different names for kernels with those patches. RedHat called these the
"enterprise" kernels. The suggested way of doing large files is to use
2.4.17 tho. I don't run sapdb on those kernels yet, however.

Once you have your OS supporting large files (eg, proper kernel, proper
glibc etc.) you should be fine...
