The problem was that after login an automatic script overwrote
the file "C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\services" and entries
like
sql6 7210/tcp # SAP DB
sql30 7200/tcp # SAP DB
sapdbni72 7269/tcp # SAP DB
vmake 7792/tcp # SAP DB
were missing.
So the problem was not directly SAP DB related but a more specific
error message of SAP DB's ODBC driver would had helped here.
