I installed the latest 7.3.0 on Windows (XP)
- Easy install (compared to Cygwin/CygIPC/PostgreSQL on same platform)
- I created a database (the admin tool and wizard are great)
- I created a user in the admin tool (with the default i.e. all rights)
- I started the database instance
I can connect to the database using the DBA user, but I cannot connect as
the new user I created (I get a -4008 invalid authorization)
Question 1: What am I doing wrong? Did I forget to do something? How do I
grant access to a database?
Question 2: I set the database parameter RESTART_SHUTDOWN to AUTO, but the
database did not start automatically. I set the database instance service as
automatic instead and it works. Am I missing something? what is
RESTART_SHUTDOWN for?
Question 3: What is the SAP: _DSAPDBD service? Should I start it as well?
Question 4: If I have a remote client connecting to my server, what port
should be open in the firewall?
General comment:
- The admin GUI is great
- SQL Studio is great
- The Web admin is terrific
- The ODBC driver is top quality
- The documentation format could be better (I had to find something that was
not perfect)
Next, I will try the JDBC driver and blob support...
Thanks for taking the time to answer the above questions.
Benoit
