Dear all,

One of my responsibilities is a SAP DB database used for
SAP R/3 on a DEC UNIX system. This version of SAP DB is
  rather old (ancient ?) - version 6.2.10.

For management reporting a tool called "Business Objects"
(BO) has been installed on a couple of PC's running Windows.
BO communicates with this SAP DB database via an ODBC
  interface.

In general this setup works quite satisfactory, except for
  one situation:
From time to time the connection between SAP DB and BO is
broken while a transaction for BO is running (because of
closing BO prematurely or just because BO is running under
Windows ...). This causes a lot of activity within SAP DB,
  seriously affecting its performance.
In most cases there is no other way to recover from this
situation than to "yoyo" (stop and start) the database -
and the regular SAP R/3 users don't like me for that ...

Question is: can this situation be avoided by some clever
parameter-setting for SAP DB, the ODBC interface or BO ?

Hope someone can come up with one or more suggestions ...

  Regards, Jan Zoethout.

  Met vriendelijke groeten,

  Jan Zoethout
